If you put a weekend's gear in the BMW top box it gets quite heavy* so make sure your bolts are tight.

After giving my bike a good thrashing on the humps and bumps of Wicklow, I was tying my bike up on the ferry back from Ireland and noticed that the top box/luggage rack was loose.

It turned out one of the side Torx bolts had fallen out and I had to make do and mend to get the bike home without losing the top box!

* In fact the bloody thing is heavy even with nowt in it!

I third this, both side screws work loose over time

The other bolts to keep an eye on are the two most forward windshield bolts - the ones that go through the windshield into the little pivots. These loosen up and fall out never to be seen again. A little blue loctite does the trick.

Just fitted a Givi pannier & top box frames. As the original BMW pannier frames were loctited in, I eventually got some suitable "non vibration liquid", as I did not feel saffe not using it. What a game that was, tried Halfords & a bike shop, car shop. All types of Loctite for, glass, plastic, super glue in a thousand types, pile cream,. Oh. not that one, that was something else! Please be aware that you must use the correct type, do noy use Studlock, this is designed to secure bearings/studs that are anticipated as never coming off. Yes. years ago I used it. Nightmare.

Strayed off my usual territory here, mine is a 1150, but otherwise exactly the same.
