Reaching back in the deep past when I owned on I think Hepco and Becker were the only ones available.
That looks like the BMW rack, it's not Hepco and Becker as they have a mount point for the pannier clasps to grip - not present on yours.
I think they may be, mrs Berin has Hepco and Becker and they are not the same. The H&B racks can be installed without the tail rack but the ones on my bike must have the tail rack fitted. That looks like the BMW rack, it's not Hepco and Becker as they have a mount point for the pannier clasps to grip - not present on yours.
The G/S and ST racks from BMW were definitely the same design. G/S were black, ST chrome but I’m sure the basic design was different. I can’t remember how. I’ve owned all three.I don't own a Basic, or a G/S, i have an ST which aside from being chromed, has I think the same rack as the G/S.
If the Unit Garage rack linked above fits both G/S and Basic, it implies that all racks for G/S, Basic (and ST?) are the same fitment. But I am not certain about this.

I just looked up on Motorworks and the ones listed for the ST don’t seem to have the arms at the top that mine has. So it seems the Basic design is different. The G/S and ST racks from BMW were definitely the same design. G/S were black, ST chrome but I’m sure the basic design was different. I can’t remember how. Could a metal shop heat it up and bend back into shape? Seems an expensive shame to have to replace it.All this faff is because the LH (sat on the bike) rail is bent, only slightly and no doubt from an off at sometime in the bikes past, and it’s bent just enough so the BMW luggage that can with doesn’t fit.
I will try that. It doesn’t look way out and these frames seem pretty rareCould a metal shop heat it up and bend back into shape? Seems an expensive shame to have to replace it.
Personally I think the BMW bags are the best looking and based on the lack of significant damage when one of mine fell off (at about 25mph admittedly) they're pretty strong too.
Yes, I now ALWAYS lock the panniers to the frame!
About as rare as the magnificent bike they belong to. Good luck.I will try that. It doesn’t look way out and these frames seem pretty rare
That would make sense. The Basic subframe is similar to the G/S ST but the right side is shaped differently to clear the paralever style rear shock absorber.I believe the g/s and ST rails fit the left side of the basic…… but the right hand rail is specific to the basic alone…..and is no longer available new from bmw…..
