I've been offered a test ride on the 1200 GS by my local BM dealer in Belfast. I have an 05 Tiger bought last year which I am more then happy with but I have an urge to test it and compare how it feels with the Tiger. I have had Twins before (Mille R and SV650) but I'm sure the BM will feel nothing like them but does it vibrate a lot.? The Tiger is so silky smooth on the go but I actually reckon the BM GS is a better looking Bike. The whole point of getting the Tiger was to see what the trailie type bike was like without spending as much. They are great bikes to ride am totally hooked on them, so if the test ride was a success I don't think i could wait long before getting one.Has anyone bought a GS from a Tiger and regretted it?

Make the test ride a long one. I like the tiger to ride but am not happy with its looks. In financial termes the Tiger makes more sense cash but depressiation is higher. The GS I think is a better bike but UKP 3K better I am not sure about. The Tiger is now well kitted for the money. I bought a new GS11550 Adv a couple of weeks ago, why? well it has its faults, its got bags of character, I like it, it makes me laugh like no othe bike and I could afford it. Who wants a nice bike boring.................

Surely the thing you'dnotice most, even above the difference in the engine is that riding a Tiger is like sitting on a very bouncy pogo stick?

The GS is more firmly suspended and better damped, IMHO.

I also felt the Tiger was slightly more top heavy ....

I bought a Tiger a few years ago but never did the world adventure thing on it - living in Belfast didnt give me too many chances for world exploration & having only mates with sports bikes too didnt help.

Now i have a GS and reckon it has a whole lot more character and the suspension is much more refined. It might not blow your mind speed wise but when you get used to just riding the torque curve you'll realise you're going plenty quick enough. Plus you see the BMW quality in how it's put together & resale which actually makes it a good investment. All you need to do is find the right roads and you're home in a boat!
