Yep, as Phil says, the Fife Arms Hotel, Braemar (or Fawlty Towers as it should be called) was shambolic to the point of being entertaining. Nice location and nice interior but the service was a shocker. The Polish barman was a cartoon character :D When we arrived, he had to phone someone every time one of us asked for anything. "White coffee, Sir? Sorry...no milek." Trying to help, I offered to go to the nearby Spar and buy some so that I could get a friggin' coffee. Warsaw Wullie was extatic :thumb2

I came back with 2 x pints to be greeted with him shouting "I find milek!" He then decided that he didn't want to remiburse me with the (previously agreed) cost of the milk. He eventually agreed (after a further phone call I think). They do food (of sorts) but it was about as good as the service. I'll no' be back in a hurry, which is a shame really cos it could be a cracking place to meet.

Apart from that though, it was a good day out and a good turn out considering the weather. It was wet most of the way up and back and it was baltic in parts, especially at the top of Glenshee.

A couple of pics from today...

The foot of the Devil's Elbow, Glenshee with a hint of the snow and freezing fog to come.

Looking back south down the A93 from the same location.

The bikes lined up outside Fawlty Towers.

Mar Road, Braemar towards the Linn of Dee. Freezing fog on the hills but a fantastic location and area.

The Marlboro Men: G.C. and Ming outside the Hotel for a fag or three. I like the effect in this photo. Black and white and all blurry :o Don't know what happened...:nenau

It was a great run home and an even better hot bath when I got there.

Canny remember everyones names but was good to meet you all anyway. Good turnout considering the weather was so tropical ;)

The hotel was, emm, 'special' :D

I was There !

Those of us who can brave the weather and are not hung over had a good run to and from Braemar.

I was trying out my new heated waistcoat ( :ymca ) so I was OK :thumb2.

A few pics of the attendees. I didn't take the camera outdoors so no bike pics I'm afraid. They were all dirty anyway :clap

Here we have Mine host, Ronno, with Ming.

The two who travelled 150 miles from Kilwinning . . . Bob and (Aaaagh, I should have written his name down . someone fill in the space please).

One of the Irish contingent (who thought that Braemar was near Applecross - but found out just in time).

The other Irishman (with soup) - not a UKGSer as he has a Triumph Tiger. Nice bike and welcome aboard anyway.

The two Irish visitors were heading for Edinburgh so I lead them to the Forth Road Bridge. I hope I didn't hold you guys up too much but I was being ultra careful.

Just under 200 miles for me. A good run and nice to get out and brave the elements (i.e. the snow and slush going over Glenshee).

Thanks for organising it Ronno - pity the Hotel was "Faulty Towers". We managed to get soup, bar snacks and coffee so all was well.

Bob.

League of Nations.

We were almost outnumbered, Belgians/Engerlish/Norn Irelanders.
Hotel made me laugh. ;)
Was a smidgen cold.

Just a note of thanks to all the boys who braved the elements and gave myself and the tiger rider a warm welcome. So sorry I missed the whole Basil episode. A special thank you Bob, that gentle run down to Edinburgh was an experiance ( thank goddnes it was wet a slippy out, other wise we would have been lost in his dust!!). Hope to get meeting you someother time.:aidan

Hi Shultz,

Like the new Avatar. The wee carpark above little Loch Broom if I'm not mistaken on the road from Poolewe to Dundonell. Good One:thumb
