M’off…. For the month of June

Day 10

Race day two

Continued….

That section of the track ticked off, it was back to Arnage to watch the end of the race at Arnage Corner, the slowest corner on the circuit:IMG_3393.jpegIMG_3394.jpegIMG_3396.jpegIMG_3399.jpegIMG_3400.jpegIMG_3404.jpegIMG_3411.jpegIMG_3409.jpegIMG_3414.jpegIMG_3431.jpegIMG_3459.jpegIMG_3463.jpeg

The winner was of course popular with all the Poles, and why not:

Day eleven

270 miles (France is a big place and bigger still when you use the lesser roads)

After the race finished, my three companions left the circuit to go home on Sunday. For me, Monday morning brought the start of the next part of my month away.

It’s a long way from Le Mans to Cochem, to meet up with Doc and his pals, so I decided to break the drive (almost entirely on D roads) into two legs, stopping midway at Laon:

Overall, the route I’d created worked well.

A brief stop to stretch my legs at Longny les Villages, where the car attracted the attention of a local family, which was fun:

Then to Bonnières sur Seine for a lunch stop. I had decided on the town, simply as it was roughly halfway between Le Mans and Laon. A quick look in Google street view had shown me that there was a large parking area, I could use. That cunning plan, foundered on the rocks when I found that the fair was in town:

For simple lunch stops, I sometimes try out the local kebab shops. This one, hit the spot:

Lunch done, it was off on the D roads to Laon, for my overnight stop, at the Hotel du Tramway, for which I have posted a separate thread:

As I found on my recent Normandy jaunt, the French have discovered a great love for speed humps. These are often not the greatest of things on a low fronted car, with no front lifter. Hey ho, it’s a first world problem. The roads I drove were exactly those that I’d have taken, had I been on my motorcycle. The time taken to drive from A to B, probably about the same, irrespective of being on four wheels, rather than two.

PS I like to pick-up ideas for jaunts and / or things to maybe do, from all sorts of places. The restaurant in Laon, was just one such:

It would be easy enough to duplicate the routes.

I have to say how nice it is to see that you're one of those chaps that actually engages with people who want to admire your car...my daughters were car mad and it was quite rare (mainly in Germany) for an owner to give them any time to have a bit of a nosy, bar thru a closed window "No touching!"

Thank you.

I have absolutely no problem with it at all. In fact, quite the opposite. I take the view that, if you a lucky enough to own a car like it, and it brings a bit of happiness to some kids or even grown-ups to sit in it, to have pictures in it or whatever, that’s great.

Day eleven

224 miles

Laon to Cochem, again mostly on D roads. through France, into Belgium (through the Ardennes) then Luxembourg and into Germany, all without showing a passport or needing to change currencies. Life is easy.

To be continued…..

When you are back, this grown up here 😃 ……. you are only down the road 👍🏻

It sure is, nor is there a great expense for the continental types to go on jollybobs to foreign lands or indeed an afternoon bomb about with a spot of lunch, sampling some foreign muck. Just look at our own Grantmac, this weekend he can be in France, next in Germany… all within a few hours ride. Not jealous at all here.

This ⬆️ 👏

Day eleven

To be continued…..

On my way again. Using Google’s street view, I’d found what looked like a reasonable place to stop for lunch in Liblin, roughly halfway. I wasn’t disappointed:

And, being Belgium, there is a vending machine on the street, offering beer:

From lunch it was more fun windy roads into Luxembourg and then to Germany…… and finally to Cochem, to wander into town with the northern monkeys and enjoy a beer or three:

Before more beers and a wander back for bed:

That’s exactly the same as I had with the Goldwing. Young children, and older folk

Day twelve

This morning, Chris and I went to see a local attraction.

Coming back from yesterday’s jaunt to Sankt Goar, we stopped for a drink and a bit of lunch in Mörsdforf.

While there, someone found a brochure, advertising the Geierlay, suspension footbridge, which crosses 360 metres from one side of a valley to another.

Komm' zur Geierlay -

Deutschlands schönste Hängeseilbrücke mit einer phantastischen Aussicht über das Mörsdorfer Bachtal. Pure Natur ohne Öffnungszeiten.

Umpteen bods (including myself) have been to Cochem and the surrounding area, umpteen times. I can’t ever remember seeing even a mention of it. Worth a detour, as Michelin say:

you need stickers and a ACO badge on it!

Day thirteen

I bailed out of last night’s festivities early. I suspect that, having been away for just about two weeks (mixed with the hot weather) had done for me. Up and about though today, fresh as a daisy.

It’s going to be a hot one again and involve a boat……

Good call, knowing when to stop is a good thing.
