M’off….. Spa WEC six-hour race

The BMW Hypercars seems to be struggling on the Team's home circuit.

Will there be a BoP adjustment?

The GT3 Mustang is 2nd fastest in Class in FP3.

That would be worth cocking an ear to up the Kemmel Straight!

A super day yesterday and a great ‘long weekend’ away.

The event is very popular, with all the grandstands full.

The campsite we stayed at is:

Camping 35, in Francorchamps. For those that know the small town, it’s a simple 10 to 15 minute walk to the circuit entrance gate at la Source. The campsite is basic but good, with clean toilets and showers, both staffed. They bring in a mobile bar and there’s simple restaurants in Francorchamps itself.

Better than Le Mans? Now it is, yes. You’ll see all of the same cars, minus the LMP2 cars that you’ll see at Le Mans. The circuit lends itself to great viewing, whether at the ‘bottom’ in the free grandstands, along the straights or right at the ‘top’ of the circuit. You can walk and watch, near enough all the way around. One tip, walk around anti-clockwise, so you’ll see the cars coming towards you.

Crowd wise? It’s busy but I’d compare it to a rugby crowd, which sort of polices itself. Everyone is out for a good time and (unlike the UK) the bods at the entrance are all very friendly.

Recommended.

There is a strange optical illusion, whereby the cars (as they hurtle down the hill past the old pits, from la Source to Eau Rouge) seem to go by slowly. Then, as they reach Eau Rouge to hurtle up to the blind crest, they seem to slingshot.

I can only guess it’s because you turn your head, when you watch them down the old pit straight, keeping them ‘in frame’ as it were, the brain slowing the image?

Going up the hill, you get a very clear view of how fast a Hypercar is, versus a racing GT3 RS or similar. Don’t get me wrong, a GT3 RS in race trim is not slow and neither at this level are the drivers. They just get blown away.

Six-hour and / or longer endurance racing is great, as so many factors (not least some luck) can come into play. Happiness or heartbreak is only a second away.

Have fun! :thumb2
Take your Silver Screen jobbie to keep the sun off your windscreen. It makes a huge difference. :thumb2

I took the screen and it worked a treat. It kept the sun out and there was no overnight condensation. For something that is nicely made, weighs next to nothing and takes up very little space, it is excellent.
