:thumb to the boys at M C Technics Suspension in Stowmarket.
I went there this week to get my Ohlins serviced and have a heavier rated spring fitted to the rear in preparation for a European trip with my wife as pillion later this year.
Excellent service and their facilities are spotlessly clean.
Darren Wnukoski set up M C Technics doing bike mechanics, servicing and parts some years back. He recently sold the business minus the suspension side to two mechanics that worked for him and went and set up MCT Suspension by himself.
The other two still trade as M C Technics apparantly, which is a bit confusing.
Anyway, the work was carried out well and then he set the bike up for me and gave me recommended settings for luggage/pillion and luggage. I took it out for a test ride and I'm well pleased with the improvement. The suspension works together now rather than feeling like two separate ends operating independently. The bike tracks around bends perfectly whereas before it had to be held down and wanted to run the front wide.

All I need now is somewhere that fits HID and I'll be done.

:blast Edited (I'm not actually from Essex, I just live there)
I'm always looking to buy more bling for my bike. It's a shame Christmas is over, I've had to take the tinsel and fairy lights off.

(By the way you haven't used capitals and you want a space after the comma and full stop rather than before:augie) (Yes I am an idiot)

Darren's a good bloke and knows his stuff, and you're right about the premises - I popped over with my greenlaner a couple of months ago and he joked "You're not bringing that thing in here, I've just cleaned up" :P

They used to be called Motorcycle Technics, however Darren now trades as MCT and MCTechnics and the other guys trade as Mototechniks. It's a little confusing, but they seem to have each retained enough of the brand to be happy, and as they are happy to refer customers to each other as appropriate, they've done a good job of the split.

Hi Ukaloon,
if you want HID's then Les Wassall is your best man -he's based near Congleton, but well worth the ride.
Got my dip beam HID'd by Les, and cost me around £100 fitted IIRC. Worth every penny

Do a search, and he'll pop up !!

all the best
Roger

Cheers. I think I'll get some extra spots fitted first, see how I get on with them ad then see if I still need more.
With the extra spots used as running lights I should stand out more in heavy traffic.:thumb

Cannons in Braintree will also fit HIDs - either their own supply or (as in my case) ones I got from Les.

I spoke with darren from MC Technics yesterday regarding suspension for my 1150.
Very knowledgable and put forward some suggestions regarding Ohlins I'd not thought of before.

SO what did he suggest to do with your Ohlins that you'd not thought of before.....thought you only got THAT kind of comment on this site ....:P

Do tell.....!

Off to see them early next month for a nice shiny new Ohlins. 3hr trip each way, so might crash over somewhere in the vicinity for a lazy start the following day.

Firstly regarding front shock.
I don't want a stiffer spring since that'll adversely affect the way I want my bike to handle when it's loaded and offroad, but I also don't want damage to the shock if/when it bottoms out so, it was suggested to change the rubber bump stop which is effectively solid to one made of a stiff foam which absorbs some of the impact. The Ohlins will also have more travel than standard and 'other' shocks.

Rear shock.
My concern of the bike being almost unrideable should the seals blow 'could' be addressed by setting the preload (not the hydraulic) so that if the seals blew it would still have the same ride height, assuming it was then solo and with no luggage.
I prefer to set my suspension with the minimum of preload anyway so I get maximum use from the spring.

I made the comment I did because I was too busy to answer it to your satisfaction last night:P

Thanks Timolgra - just curious as I have just fitted my Wilbers rear. I have also heard very good things of M C Technic, but I couldn't stretch to Ohlins, so went to Pete at Every Accessory.
For my, none off road riding, the Wilbers already seems a great improvement over my knackered BMW OE shock, although not done too many miles as yet.
Cheers.

I have also heard very good things of M C Technic,

I can agree with that, I have used Darren to lower 3 of my bikes (they were all kawasaki not BWW) The bike advantage for cost was, he used what was on the bike which was great and and alot cheaper than I expected. :thumb2

Hi Chris, bite the bullet and take the trip to see Les, hopefully you won't break down like me on the M6! I had main and dip done but rarely use main as the dip is so good. Not the cheapest but the best rarely is! He can also provide fogs and spots which I had planned to do but apart from the bling factor I can't see the point now. Call me if you want to chat it through.

Hi Brian, how you doing ? I was thinking of the spots, purely from the safety/visibility to other road-users factor. But agree -with the HID dip, I don't feel the need for an HID main beam.
Out of imterest, how much did Les quote for the spots ?

see you sometime soon ?
Roger

After a 7hr round trip in the p*ssing rain (during which I discovered that my jacket wasn't really waterproof after all), I have discovered the revelation of the GSA now handling properly.

It no longer behaves like a yachting dog constantly dragging it's bum, steers properly and instils so much confidence. The test ride even made me forget I was soaking wet.

Apparently my rear shock was one of the worst Darren had seen, exacerbated by my hefty frame making the back of the bike disappear groundwards. Oh, and apparently I'm a nutter for only wearing a T-shirt under my jacket yesterday :D

Thanks chaps, I'll be back soon for a matching front, and more of Keith's tea!

Cheers Brian. I fitted the spots to make me stand out in traffic etc, but I think that the HID will be next on the list.
