M1300 GS on the way ?

There are very few on here who could properly ride a near £30k more extreme 1300 off-road .


Exactly . Having just done two extreme weeks off-road in the Himalayas, I would not have managed to ride what we have just done on a tall and very expensive 1300.
It ‘makes sense’ to produce an M1300GS focusing on off-road as, like said above, the 1300 doesn’t need any more performance , but 99% of those buying one would be buying it for pub bragging rights as their bike will never venture off tarmac .

Why are you worrying about this? It's their money, to enjoy how they choose.

Different tools for different jobs, I have both a 1300GS and an ADV350, both are brilliant for their respective roles

Whilst I agree that there are many blinkered GS Only types, the ‘your money your choice’ argument has merit too.

I’m lucky enough to own quite a few bikes; a selection……

Indian FTR 1000 RR Carbon - utterly pointless apart from mincing about the Peak District or Bike Shed

Ducati 1098 R - See above

MV 1000 F4 - See above

Rocket 3 R - See above, (Apart from recent tour obviously, but I needed new slippers)

Triumph Bobber Chrome - See above

Various others - mainly see above.

I like them all, they all bring something to my ‘biking party’

However would I buy a Chinese bike - without hesitation

Would I buy a Supa scooter - without hesitation

Would I sell my bigger bikes when I’m too old and weak / stupid to use them - without hesitation, then straight to the Supa Scooter dealership.

On point - Would I spunk 30k on a GSA, absolutely not, because ‘personally’ it’s not for me at the moment.

Do I object to others doing so - fill your boots and enjoy your new bike.

BMW does not make M motorcycles to sell to a lot of people or to make sense economically. They are simply an engineering exercise. Even a track racer wouldn't start with an S100RR M

Majority of GS bikes are used purely on tarmac. As are most large capacity ADVs.

because:

1) they weigh so much, those old enough to have the time or money to try a trip, could never pick the dam thing up
2) they are such overloaded trinket bikes with joke suspension it would never make it
3) many have jobs so can't take 6 months off
4) those that think they want to, can't afford the 10k in bribery needed to get across boarders
5) the world is such a mess unless spying against iran, no one is funding the cost of a security team to stop locals eating you or the land mines taking off your leg

Percentage wise I lost a lots less on a year old Kove 800 than I did on a year old BMW R1250GSA, both bought new.

a R1250/R1300GS/GSA is a fun but vastly over priced bike

sadly it drops 7k the day you ride a new one out the door - because 7k off the purchase price is the approx value they know they can get away with - and we are just morons being robbed for a terribly finished, unreliable bike, with insane servicing costs

there's a very good reason you can only insure it when you say the value is much lower than what you were actually robbed of when picking up a new one
its really an 11k bike but they still get away asking 23k because there are too many fools thinking they are well finished and still last 15 years

Yes, we know this, because you tell us a couple of times a week. I spend my money on what I fancy. For the last 5 years and over 40,000 (road) miles it's been BMW GSs. Loved every penny. Memories for life.

Perhaps accept your opinion is good for you, but not everyone. Also, we've got your message and know where you're coming from.

Cannot help thinking that in the current economic clusterf*ck that the world is embroiled in that BMW Corporate should take the hexhead based R12GS motor and build around it a stripped down version of the current r1300gs and r1300gsa (without the shit styling) and sell it for a more affordable price to give punters an affordable alternative to buying Chinese
