Mac iMovie HD - sound from MP4 camera??

Hello Mac Masters, can you help me out? I've just got back from India with loads of short video clips on my Sony Cybershot digicam (not video recorder).

I'm loading them into iMovie HD, but can't get any sound... the sound is fine in Finder preview, but not in iMovie... tried all sorts of stuff, but no joy.

Any ideas???

PS: Also when I do 'new project' and select 'DV' it defaults to NTSC, not PAL. Can't find out how to change it!

Not sure to be honest, but I do know that none of the footage from my wifes cybershot works on my mac.
had to go buy a new camcorder

Someone suggested I separate the sound from the images and load it separately. Errr, how would I do that??
