Mac Mini - is higher spec worth it for 'normal' use?

My MacBook Air is getting well old, about eight years maybe a little more, and I'm finding that browsers like Firefox and Google Chrome are asking for upgrades from High Sierra 10.6. It works fine for me but I'm thinking about a Mini.

The question of buying a step up model is on my mind, either to 16 GB RAM from 8 GB or 512 GB memory from 256 GB are the option within my budget.

I'd be grateful for any views ...

Well i went ahead and bought the base model anyway at Amazon (Spain) for £562. It's obvious that they're having a clearance before the M3 comes out as predicted by the pundit but I'm happy with this for my simle needs - in fact I could probably do all my necessary stuff on a mobile phone these days ...

I've always had MacBookPro because I did a lot of graphics work.

A year ago I shopped around for a replacement and ended up with a MacBookAir because it was more than capable of doing what I needed

The modern specs are just incredible really - especially with the M series processors.

Mine's an M2 and it flies through work - especially comparing it to an 8 year old machine.

I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with your Mini

For "normal" usage any Apple Silicon mini would do. They are very fast.

Without knowing exactly what you do, but considering a basic use I'd go for 8/512 over 16/256. Normal user might probably need more internal storage (backups, apps) over RAM over the years.
