I'm new to Apple PCs/ laptops so could do with some advice.
I tend to take an old netbook on holiday to surf the net but which also has a backup of my routes for the Garmin 660. Would a Macbook Air allow me to store routes for editing and download, if so it it as simple as plugging into a USB.

Yes - it's the same as using a pc; you just need to load Garmin Basecamp (free) to build, store and edit routs for the 660. Easy to connect either by USB, or using a card reader, adapter and the micro SD in the 660, which Garmin cunningly hid under the battery!

Thanks for that. If I plot a route on my PC, am I able to transfer it to the Mac either from the PC or the 660 ?

Yes - upload to the 660 from whatever, then you can also download to whatever. That bit works. It's Garmin's shockingly pants map updating process that is the pain.

You can either transfer it via the 660 or just export it from Mapsource as a .gpx file to the desktop on the pc, email it to the mac, copy to the mac desktop and import to Basecamp.

Simples...
