MacKeeper, what is it?

Just had this window pop up on my MacBook and wondered what its all about?
I've had other things like this before and always just ignored them but wondered if anyone has ever downloaded this 'cleaner' etc

It was a one off, didn't click on anything and definitely wouldn't pay for anything like that.
just curious as its the first Mac i've had and wondered if you need to run anything like this at all?

AFAIK any website can create a dialogue like that. I don't think it's malicious.

I use Mackeeper and find it pretty good, it cleans out files properly etc.

Not needed. Just be sure when you mac wants your password to install something, you understand what you are loading.
