and maybe even my Festive Period...:D

I salted the pavement outside my own house at lunchtime and then watched an old, fairly stooped man, struggling up the parts that weren't salted, carrying bags of messsages. I got talking to him and guessed that he was in his mid 80's. I nearly fell myself when he told me that he's 103! He lives near me (I've seen him going about) but looks at least 20 years younger than his real age. He lives alone and has no carers but his family "keep an eye on him when they can". His only son is 78 and lives in England.

FFS what a man. Sharp as a tack and unbelievably fit. Really made my day meeting him. Just goes to show who lives around you and you're too wrapped up in your own life to really notice. If I hadn't talked to him today to ensure he was OK on the ice, I'd have been the loser.

Did you carry his bags for him?

More likely he declined your kind offer, I bet he's independant to the point of being bloody minded:)

Brilliant! At least he has a young family to look after him
Like to hear his views on the nanny state, political correctness, human rights for bombers etc etc
Sounds fitter and more on the ball than half of us, has he got a bike?:thumb
Worth offering him a wee dram next time :jeiger

I'm going to try and find out exactly where he lives and hand in bottle of Red Label that I have in the house. He struck me as if he'd enjoy the odd dram. :beerjug:

I offered him a lift but he declined. He also told me that he grudges paying three quid for taxis from the High Street so he'd rather walk and get the exercise :D

Should be an interesting man to get to know and as likely as not a good companion to share a wee dram or two with Ronnie. :thumb2

Prost. :beerjug:

I've got a coule of old dears that stay in nearby house's still very independant one was my wife's primary school teacher, another my wife's known all her days, they consistantly crack me up with some of the things they come out with and out and about in all weathers always on the go.

so good on the old boy for still be independant at that age, though knowing some old folks he's probably pulling yir chain, he'll be 102 yrs young :)

nice one Ronno, its cool when peeps stop and pass the day you find out some great stuff about the people around you:cool:
