Maiden voyage..

Had an hour spare this afternoon and with the unseasonably high temperatures thought I would take my '14 GS TE out for my first ride.
Impressions?
Its got great torque. Revs out harder than expected. Nice gearbox (if not dawdling...) Nice light clutch. Handling way beyond what I expected. Lucky enough to live not far from Hartside so had a ride up on what can only be described as crapy, wet, gravel covered roads. ..and it felt great. Probably the most secure feeling bike in the wet.
Only downside, not a bigy, need to find the MPH setting on the digital display.

You can only do this if you've got the Pro computer, which is a factory option. That surprised me a bit when I bought my bike (which turned out not to have that option)

switch and you will eventually get to it.

yep, I too want to be able to see this too as I find the analogue speedo too small and scrolling though the options last night I couldn't find it either so off to look through the manual to see if it's in there......

Nav 5 is the best option but a digital speedo would be good when the GS gets its facelift!

I have actual speed at the top and fuel range at the bottom of the digital screen

Those clever bods in BMW have given us an info display with multitudinous options BUT to get what you want takes a heck of a lot of reading of the Rider's Manual to set it up as you want it and where it keeps changing button numbers depending on which stage you're at, so I've identified the buttons by the names actually on them for clarity.
My preference is for :-
a) The top of the display to show RANGE to empty. This is very useful when going out for a ride and just a glance will tell you if you need to fill up or not more accurately than the fuel gauge bars on the display left. Of course when you're riding it's also nice to know and not wait until the fuel warning light illuminates.
b) The bottom of the display to show SPEED (current not average). The analogue speedo is a bit on the small side and I prefer to read actual numbers since I value my clean licence.

If you have the 'on board computer PRO' as I have, this is the way to go about it. It worked for me!

- Ignition on/bike stationary.
- Press TRIP repeatedly - until the top displays SET UP ENTER
- Press TRIP and hold - to start the SET UP menu
- Press TRIP repeatedly - to scroll thru' menu items to reach SET UP BC Custom
- Press INFO and hold - to display 1st menu item SET UP BC ODO appears
- Press TRIP repeatedly - to scroll thru' menu items. During this the bottom line indicates where the menu item currently appears on the display i.e. top or bottom
- Press INFO once briefly - to change your choice to TOP or BOTTOM
- Press TRIP repeatedly - to reach EXIT menu item
- Press TRIP and hold - BC CUSTOM will appear
- Press TRIP and hold again
- Press TRIP repeatedly - to position your choice at the TOP (in my case RANGE to empty)
- Press INFO repeatedly - to position your choice at the BOTTOM (in my case SPEED actual)

I've printed this off and will give it a go to see if I can get it to work before the battery goes flat!
