Guys/Gals, one of the lads (from this Shire, - he may wish to identify himself but thats not for me to do) approached me ages ago with what can only (IMHO) be a bloody good idea :bow

It was his intention, knowing my resources, to see if I can come up with something that would prove to be beneficial to us all in slowing down the possibility of scum thieving our bikes.

Eventually (ffs :D) I got round to doing it and with his very kind (already received) blessing I think I have come up with a quick and easy additional security device/option/alternative that even looks like its a factory fit!

Simply, when the bike is on it`s mainstand it allows the fitment of a padlock (I`ve used a 12mm straight shank as it `butts` against the frame better, avoiding a scissor action - if you see what I mean - from using a round shank. It took me seconds to fit the padlock.

Once fitted the shank of the padlock butts up against the frame making it impossible (I`ve tried) to get the bike off its mainstand. Obviously if the thieving scum want it they will get it but I think that this will be a great option or additional security measure we can all take - indeed its my bike in the photos as I think its a great idea myself.

Most padlocks can be used (if the shank fits), even alarmed ones and ones of different grades.

The work needed includes good welding, a laser cut profiled part (accurate to 0.2mm) and necessary refurbishment of the mainstand, resulting in what looks like to me as a factory fit and and an `as new` main stand (FYI the OEM stands are over £200 each ). I haven`t done any of it cheaply nor took any shortcuts so that, I hope, it`s to my usual high standards.

I did think about offering an exchange service but, TBH, it wont take me long to turn them round so I would hope that it would work out a cheaper (and quicker) option than the excellent `Roadlok` - or mebbe used with a Roadlok? Belt and braces mebbe?

Anyway, all kind thoughts and opinions always thankfully received!

Ride safe :thumby:

That looks like a relatively simple but well thought solution that was factory fitted. Forget that, it’s far better than BMW would do!!
Just what we have come to expect from you Mark. I will be wanting one.

Hi Mark.

That looks great. Do you have price for this?

Not sure, I`m trying to keep it as low as possible (by using the customer stand) but without cutting any corners on quality (I`ve bought too much cheap sh1te in my time) but I think the full job is going to be around the £100 mark (plus postage) which does compare very well against for instance the superb Roadlok from the states.

Thanks Mark.

Currently between jobs so I will be in touch when I’m sorted.

As usual quality kit, is it going to be for older model's too or just the LC ?

Thanks, I`d be pleased to do it for older models but would need the kindness of the lads to provide me with the bike to design it around - I`ve thought of a generic lug but there`s too much chance of a sloppy fit. I ain`t doing that just for the sake of selling more of course!

Just say if I can help you in anyway :thumb2

Photos don’t work for me - but I’m in anyway.

Great looking job Mark, so I'm pleased you got around to following up my suggestion.

Unfortunately I've now changed to an RS, so I'm going to have to DIY it again!

Had a look at my hexhead earlier,

looks like this mod is LC only

my frame / stand relationship is different :(
