Hi all. Im just in the process of rebuilding the gearbox on my 93 GSPD. The main shaft has not got the circlip groove cut in it. Is there anyone able to do this mod? I know there is a lot of talk about whether its necessary but the rebuild was promoted by the clutch end bearing moving down the shaft. Turning the output flange you could feel the bearing sticking and low and behold no circlip. All this on 34k miles.

I've had three or four shafts modified by a local Engineering Works. They charged me £50 the last time (probably two years ago now). Prices will have risen since then.

I have actually acquired some carbide strip in order to make a cutter for my lathe, but I haven't tried to machine a hardened shaft yet and I'm reluctant to practice on someones precious mainshaft :augie

There are a couple of people on here who have done this but, if they don't want to take it on, I'd try local Engineers.

I fitted the 6403 bearing to the front of the shaft and then took it along with the new circlip (from Motorworks). It didn't take them long.

If you want me to get it done, drop me a PM.

Bob.

Thanks for the reply. I will give it a day or two to see if anyone local can do it for me. Ive got a drawing with measurements.
