Mainstand Issues

This might seem a stooopid question, but can you remove and refit the mainstand if the engine is fitted with a sump extension?
Assuming of course said engine is actualy in the bike frame and not sat on a bench like mine is currently. I bought a new stand that seems a bit short. So modification may have to take place or both wheels will be on the ground when the bike is on the stand. My engine will be build and ready to go in. Just wondering if I have to wait to finish the stand mods first.

Can't quite remember but I'm fairly sure you need the sump extension off to remove the centre stand

Bollocks. Thought so. Thanks, you would have heard me swear from there if I'd got the engine in first. I had to run a drill through some of the holes in the sump extender to get it to fit. Was a right bast, don't fancy doing it upside down, laying on the floor. I guess I'll have to finish the stand first then!!!!!

I an confirm that the sump extension has to come off to fit a new centre stand. Did it myself just before Christmas. Depending which sump extension you have it's worth noting where the sump bolts fit. I think the Touratech one uses the same bolt lengths so it's simple to refit. Mine was a tapered sump extension with different length bolts. a right pain

Mine has worn through in places. I bought one on my last visit to the uk. Brand spankers for 26 quid. Got it home, fitted it to find it's not the same. A bit shorter and the l/h leg is angled slightly, guessing it's for a r100r or mystic. Both wheels will be on the deck when the bikes on the stand. I wonder if I have a longer shock fitted?

Hi

The centre stand can quite easily bend in such a way that the bike ends up with both wheels touching the ground. You can tell if this has happened if it is a total pig to get back off the stand. In my case, the bike lifts as normal when you pull it back onto the stand but as it goes over centre it kind of drops down. I hope this makes sense. I bought a new stand from Motorworks for £20 when they were clearing out stock but you could bend it back and weld some braces to help strengthen the bend area.

Also, the pivot can wear in the frame....also the lugs on the stand that rest against the stops on the frame can wear away and only need a quick blob of weld to get them back up there again !!
