I have installed external cameras and DVR (Swann) and a Canary camera internally at my house in Eire with a view to keeping an eye on the place while away but they won't stay online? I also wanted to use Hive controls for lights, heating etc. but haven't got round to installing them in yet.
Took out a pre-pay mobile contract with 3.ie for 3G mobile broadband with 4G allegedly soon to arrive. The mast is in direct line of sight from my front door. "Will it work alright with cameras etc over tinternet?" I asked. No problem, all you need is a static IP address, just phone the technical and they will sort it", said the 3 shop assistant.
When I phoned I got some confusing technobabble but was told it would be passed to the engineers who would sort it.
Fitted the cameras and they worked fine and were easy to view on my phone/tablet etc. Although the broadband was very slow!
Then I came back to the UK and they all worked fine for about 5 days before going down and I can't reconnect.
I did phone them before I left and ask what happened about the static IP etc and after further technobabble, it seems they won't do it on mobile networks, however it should be OK as they had configured my?APN?
In my view therefore the broadband is not fit for purpose but I know it will be virtually impossible to get out of the contract.
Is there a technical workaround - some way of maintaining a link or finding and re-connecting when there is an outage.
Please help, I am at the end of my tether:mad::mad:

How are you connecting to the mobile Internet, do you have a mifi type thing or something a bit better? There are several serviced that offer dynamic dns but you need a means to update their service. Most broadband routers have this ability bit no idea about mobile broadband. Basically you get an address from them say www.mycamera.co.uk your device monitors its ip address and when it changers registers that change so you always just use www.mycamera.co.uk but it links to whatever your ip address is.

Check your kit as well to see if they can connect an external service. Ip doesn't matter then as your camera connects to the service not the other way.

Sounds like the right direction but not sure how that fits in with the Swann and Canary apps

I'm running a Huawei B315 as I needed RJ45 connection for the DVR. No idea on dynamic dns either though?

Sorry I'm struggling to keep up...:aidan

A quick Google and it looks like your router can support dynamic dns. The complaint it that it is limited to who it can connect to but apparently it can do it. This would be your best option unless you want to run a small server 24/7

http://www.noip.com for an explanation on what I am talking about. No idea if this is one of the providers your router can connect to, this is just an example.
