I have been looking through all the datatool posts on the forum as I'm coming to a 'decision time' with my system 3.

My bike is kept in a secure garage, which unfortunately has no power.
I have a second BMW battery which is connected upto a solar panel and a 12v bulb (via a pressure switch on the garage door) so I get light when the door is opened.

Unfortunately due to work I'm not using the bike every day as I was before and I'm finding after a couple of days that the bike voltage is down to 12.4v, which does not seem enough to fire it up. A few minutes on the optimate and its up to 13 and the bikes fine.

I have HiD's fitted but I don't leave the bike 'on' prior to starting up

I am very close to removing the datatool system as this seems to be the culprit as dragging my bike from the garage to the house is a bit of a pain.
Are these an epic pain to remove - has anyone 'disarmed' one leaving it in place so if needed you can easilly re-install.

The question is: could I hook up the second battery (fully charged) to the bike to maintain voltage whilst its in the garage, say via the optimate connector or the jump start connectors -
Or is a Hawker battery as good as everyone says??
BTW I've got a 'hawker' type battery from tayna up in Scotland which was great to start with, but seems to have lost some of its staying power!

easy

just run a fused lead from your second battery, via the cigar socket on the bike, and this will parallel the batteries together, and as the second battery is charged by solar power, this may, and i say may, keep your bike topped up too, it depends on the output of the solar panel and wether the weather is good enough to provide sufficient power , as the panel will have to run the alarm system and charge two batteries also.

I did what post #2 did on a Firestorm, worked a treat :thumb2

And, charge up the second battery from a mains charger from time to time.

Do as mentioned in the previous posts, but get a hold of a decent size car battery and use that instead of the extra bike battery, for more capacity.

Keep your extra bike battery in the house and give it a charge every so often.

Great!! I'm glad this will work!

However, I think the decision was taken out of my hands at about 3pm this afternoon at Boxhill. Datatool would not disarm, would not manual pin override - would not do anything. Nice RAC man sorted out a recovery!!
Insured with ebike and from first call to getting home was only a couple of hours. Great service!

Got home and neither keyfob disarms bike, managed to get it into manual override but all the on and off's has killed the battery :(

So :mcgun datatool on tuesday, my hands have been forced!.

Will rig up a second battery as per second post

Time to dig out the big chain!

Blackal, as per PM, Your a star! going to try it before the soldering iron and snips are brought out!
Ta! :beer::beer::beer:

I don't have a datatool, but I do have a problem with no power supply to my garage, with the right plug, can I use another battery to give the bike a bit of extra juice through the accessory socket (1150GS) to start it?

With my knee playing up the bike has been off the road and idle for a while and although it started and ran a couple of weeks ago, it's pretty dead at the mo.....

2 things
1,your battery is at 12.4,that will start bike
the test
put a muti meter on batt and read 12.4
then still connected start bike
has volts dropped blew 11 ish volts
if so change batt
2
data tools can be removed i am datatool trained and tracker trained
its not hard but and this is a big one
all the wires r black so if it has been fitted right and all the cut offs r done right it can take up to 2 hours to remove

maybe not

afraid not, all you will do is blow the fuse on the accessory socket, you need to fit the jump start attatchment to the starter cowl , whereby you can put a set of jump leads on this special post and be able to jump start the bike without taking the tank off to get to the battery.costa around £13 odd in bits.
or go buy a solar panel and fit the bmw plug on the end, plug it on the bike, leave it a week or so , and hey presto, woomba!!woomba!

Thanks for the replies. Worth the post to get opinions. I'll go back to the method I used last year with the jump leads on the starter motor to get it running!

That's what I thought but wanted it confirmed! I do have a Maplin solar panel that I bought a year or so ago and fitted a beemer style plug . I need to extend the lead so I can mount the panel on the outside wall of the garage as the lead it comes with is too short to get from the socket and clear the up and over door... I didn't thnk it worked that marvellously last time I gave it an extended workout. I'll give it another go!

Or, you could attach this to your battery direct, and you can then charge your battery, or jump start another bike, without taking anything off bike-comes with croc clips bit as well. Have fitted to my bike, and have it coiled under the seat ....just in case !

Looks like a good idea....
