Maison Laudeire - Normandy

Hi Bryn

We are approx. 4 hours 30 mins from Calais on the autoroutes. I have never done the ride down on D roads as always been in a rush in the past to get here. Try to avoid Rouen, unless you want to particularly visit it, as it can be a nightmare to get through unless you have the power of Sat Nav!

If you have access to the 'the best rides' motorcycle atlas of France there is a route, part of it highlighted, that you could take keeping east of Rouen then cutting across west. I will take a look and email it to you but guess there may be some other options coming your way soon!

We did the D route last time, allow about 6 hrs with stops. The A route is nice when you get up near the coastal part and as Nige says 4 1/2 hours.

Rouen is a nightmare, about the only place i 'feared for my life' whilst riding a bike in France. You'll have a great time Bryn, we are due another trip and are trying to sort one out at the moment.

Thanks both... I reckon if its 4 and a half hours away from Calais, I'll hit the Autoroute and then peel off an hour or so away :thumb

Cheers Bryn.

We have never had to have the woodburner on this late in the year for drying gloves out, etc :D

I will start practising some sort of 'sun' worshipping to see if that works!

Glad the journey home went OK even if a fair amount of time on the ferry.

Great to meet you both.

Hi GreatScott are you still getting out and about on the GS?

The rain Bryn and Lyn experienced was pretty much the same as when you guys arrived, similar pool of water on the lounge floor tiles too :D

That rail I put up over the woodburner for your stuff has finally had its second use!

Just got back from a two night stay here and its another thumbs up:thumb2, lovely area with loads to see,a lovely home with fab rooms and the hostess carole where nothing is to much trouble, sorry we never got to meet you nige but hey could just be the excuse we need to return;)

Hi tarry

Sorry I missed you both too but Carole was keeping me posted!

It sounds as if you managed to get some half reasonable weather too, unlike I have been riding in over here in Blighty :D

If you do come back for a second visit I will make sure I am there too, just had some duties to perform that could not wait!

Thanks for the comments. :beerjug:

We stopped off here last Saturday on the way back from Brittany.

Everything about this place is excellent. The location, the welcome, the standard of the accomodation, the food, the hosts, the company.... all led to a very enjoyable, but too short, stay. Don't let the low prices put you off, this is a quality place!

Will definately be going back for a longer visit now that we know about this place.

Thanks again Nigel & Carole

Tom (and Angie)

Hi Tom

Thanks for the comments.

Was great to meet you and Angie and glad you enjoyed your stay.

The KTM guys are back tomorrow so I will be tearing round the local lanes with two mad guys pushing me along!!

Look forward to seeing you both again.

Regards

Nige and Carole :beerjug:

Another wonderful stay at this loverly B&B. This time with the family breaking up the journey south and then again on the return. Used to use the Novotel Chain of Hotels but now we all much prefer the hospiltaliity of Nigel and Carole. Highly recommended by the whole family.

Thanks Alan was great to see you all.

Good job the weather held for the BBQ as I have been banned from doing them indoors these days!! :D

Here's to the next time :beerjug:

Regards

If I may also add my two pennarth-worth, We stopped at the end of July at the start of our holiday and after a 550 mile day it was an oasis of hospitality, good food and drink and brilliant room.
I must admit my friend Gary is an old mucker of Nigel's but I don't think Nigel held that against us.
Will defiantly stop over again when next in France

Thanks for the comments Martin, was great to meet you and Trevor and to see Gary again. Glad you enjoyed your stay and it sounds like you had a great rest of your trip as I did text Gary recently for a catch up.

Be good to see you again sometime even if you do drag Gary back as well :D

Cheers

My wife and I are just back from a fantastic week with Nigel & Carole at Maison Laudiere. We knew it was going to be good after reading all the other very positive reports and we can only second those comments.

From the moment you arrive, both Carole and Nigel make you feel most welcome and that you have known them for years, they certainly know how to look after their guests.

We dined with Carole and Nigel and the other guests and can confirm that Carole's cooking is first class, as is their taxi service to and from the local town, should you wish to dine there of an evening.

We had good weather all week, superb roads, what more can you wish for?

Brittany Ferries let us down with a strike on the Friday evening, when we should have been on the overnight crossing from Caen to Portsmouth, resulting in a ride up to Calais and then from Dover to the North West on the Saturday, but we made it.

Overall, a fantastic week made all the better by Nigel and Caroles hospitality at Maison Laudiere, rest assured we'll be back

Thanks again, Geoff & Margaret

Thanks for the great comments Geoff. Really enjoyed meeting you both.

You did get the best of the weather as we did another bbq tonight in the pouring rain!

Be great to see you again next year sometime and if I am back oop north I will give you a shout for that cuppa.

Enjoy the business trip.

Regards

Thanks for that Dave :beerjug:

Funnily enough I have actually started using TA myself when looking for places to stay and I had never heard of it until 3 years ago!

Hope all going OK in the IOM

Thanks once again

Just a quick to say many thanks Nigel and Carol,
A last minute decision to take advantage of some spring weather and to blow out a few cobwebs. And those D99.... roads did the trick. Thanks for showing us some great riding and a little of the local culture.

Hope to see you again soon

Regards, Dean
