Glad to see this thread is still running Nigel:)

We are coming over in the beginning of October but by tunnel this time so will be looking for a place about an hour south of Calais for a night if you know anyone?

A big thanks to Carole for a lovely meal and getting up at stupid o clock to make us a cup of coffee for the early ferry. All mod cons as usual. just to short a time this time around.....and missed Nigels witty banter(???!)

We'll be back .....

Richie and Liz

Hi Mark, yep your original post still going well thanks to all the guests we have from UKGSER site!

Sorry not replied sooner but sneaked off to an automotive show in Frankfurt for a few days and not long back! Best advice for somewhere near Calais would be to trawl on here or booking.com! Hope all well with you and yours.

Hi Richie again sorry I missed you both, only by a day, as would have been good to catch up as not seen you since I popped round to Mikes when I was in Twickenham, and you came round too, a fair few months ago now!

Hopefully will be around if you make it back here sometime.

Regards from us both

There was a superb classic car event in Angeloume this weekend.
It took 2 hours for the cars to drive through a local village and Morgans galore. Classic street race tommrw Very much like the Pico,s event but for cars.

Nigel and Carole, see you soon :friday.

Once again a great stop over, thanks for everything:D.
Barbara was very impressed, and the tip about Beuvron-en-Auge gets top marks.
There is an old farm at the edge of the village selling wine and cidre at great prices:beer:

Hi Ric was great to see you again and to meet Barbara. Glad Barbara enjoyed her road trip with you and your stopover with us.

Also good to hear you liked Beuvron it is a lovely village and sounds like you had a good find with the vin et cidre!

I am just waiting for the new coil to arrive for the Tiger then I will start the 'coil-shuffle' to 'hopefully' find the faulty one, will keep you posted.

All the best

Just got back from seeing Nigel and Carole at Maison Laudiere. As always it was a fantastic stay, great company and amazing accommodation, the log burner was great too! :thumb2

We have now been 4 times, twice on the bike and twice with the family, it works really well for both.

It's a great spot for a bike holiday, whether your using it as a base or passing through, do take in the D911 and D999 if you have the time, Nigel's been known to join a ride, quite quick he is too for a Triumph rider.... :augie (I know Nigel, I couldn't keep up on the Fireblade...... I had something in my eye.....:D)
When I had a puncture another time, Nigel and Carole spent a Monday morning on the phone trying to find a replacement locally ( not easy as Fance is ferme on a Monday....) and then ferried me and the wheel to have it replaced, so I could ride the above roads on the Monday afternoon, this went way and above what they needed to have done, and is indicative of their level of care for guests.

As a B&B or self catering in Normandy you will not find better, period. :thumb

Hi David

Thank you for your comments, as usual was great to see you and family again and to meet Paul and family too.

Thoroughly enjoyed spending some time with you all, had a great laugh, and happy that the weather was kind for a few days in the middle of the week.

Always enjoy a ride out on the Tiger as and when the chance comes around :D and always happy to help out when a problem arises, we have been called Nige&Carole Assist!!!

Hope to see you later in the year if you come past this way

Cheers

Hi Jeremy, thanks :thumb2

Hope you enjoyed the ride on that route we suggested and meet up with your cycling buddy. Have a good remainder of your trip and may see you again sometime.

Stu, it will soon come around!

Rgds

After having stopped off here a couple of years ago we returned last week for four nights so we could have a proper look at the area rather than just fly through. We were in the car this time (to collect food and wine) but still got the motards discount:thumb2.

We had a superb time and Carol and Nigel looked after us superbly. Glad to say that the standards of the place are as good as our first visit and we were delighted to be back. The area is superb and needs more than a few days so we will definately be back.

So, if you are passing through or fancy a great touring base then this is one of the best.

We even managed to negotiate strike torn Calais on Tuesday and caught one of the last shuttles out before the terminal got shutdown so had a great end to our mini holiday.

Cheers

Tom & Angie

Note: Nigel did say he likes to be called "Nig" these days.

Hi Tom, Angie

Thanks for your comments. Was great to see you both again and glad you enjoyed the area, etc.

We have been busy with other guests and have only just seen your post, we were going to email you re your 'escape' from Calais so good to hear you managed to dodge all the nutters up there!!

The weather has just got hotter and hotter and we have had 34 degrees here today, way too hot for me :D

Take care both and enjoy the heatwave the UK is due tomorrow!!

Kind regards

Nige and Carole :thumb

I cannot comment on the Maison, as I haven't visited (yet!).

However, I know the area well; I cycle there every year with some old mates (we based ourselves in Bagnoles, just a few Kms from the Maison, just 4 weeks ago).

Anyway, it's an absolutely tremendous area for biking. Whether you like open farmland with sunflower fields and distant village spires, or almost traffic free roads through balmy wooded hillsides, or medieval towns steeped in history, or bubbling rivers.... this area has the lot in abundance.

Some of the bigger towns (like Bagnoles) offer not just one but a few Michelin restaurants - brilliant food and wine at great prices.

When you first visit this area you realise that you don't have to do 7 hours through France to get to the 'good bits' - they're right here just an hour from the port (or about 4-5 hours on a racing cycle). :D

A single IGN map* (R02, Basse et Haute-Normandie) is all you need for this area and more.

Great as a stopover, but even better to spend a day or two exploring.

Hi The Other PaulG

Thanks for the big-up of the area, it a great region to explore, as you say.

When you are on your push-iron you will be benefiting from the great roads round here as three years ago ish lots of them were re-surfaced for the 'Semaine Federal' a push-iron meet held every year in a different town in France each time, it has been running for 75 year and we got it here....14,000 cyclists!! Have to say I escaped back to England during that week but it did our roads a world of good :D
