Hi, new to the forum so nice to meet you all. :thumb2

I'm on the look out for an 1150 GS/GSA and having looked at a few (and pics of a few more) I have seen flaking paint, corrosion and pitting in I guess the usual places: barrels, forks, wheels. I have tried a few searches and found plenty of advice on prevention but haven't come up with any advice on making good/refinishing existing cosmetic damage and preventing further deterioration. I would welcome any advice or links to relevant threads I have missed so that I am well prepared for my soon to be made purchase.

Thanks for your help.

Use the "search" button on the toolbar above this reply, type in Smoothrite. Then type in ACF50.

Another "CORKHEAD" sees the light and gets themself a bike thats right for the Island pot holed filled tracks with tarmac covering.
Have to try and get the Islanders together 1 day.

Wahoo! Hi there Vectis Traveller, nice to see another Islander on here. Just got myself an 1150 two weeks ago and love it, got it from Vines in Guildford. They are ideal for our crappy roads although I have done more miles off the Island with it than on tbh :D

Im here too

We are all coming out of the woodwork now!
Im on my 2nd 1150 gs adv soaks up the island bumps a treat.
How many other gsers are there over here?
Perhaps we all ought to meet up someday.

Hi Stigo

Picking mine up tomorrow, I guess there must be 5 or 6 Island GSers on here.

Hi Vectistraveller
Perhaps all us island gsers ought to get together one day what do you think?
I live on the south of the island
Where are you getting your bike from?

Wahoo! sounds cool to me, at a rough count now there are 8 gsers that I can think of on the Island, we must all get together for sure, nick and I sometimes go up to the Ace on the first Sunday of the mth, we should all go together and meet up with the other tossers :D:cool:
Stigo, south of the Island eh, farmer...umm now lets think, what colour is ya bike? We are slam bang in the centre of IOW

Bought it privately and had it delivered to Bahnstormer for a service. They are dropping it off at Wightlink in Portsmouth for me.

I protect my lower forks with some neoprene covers. I had my fork brace and wishbone and rocker covers shotblasted and powdercoated last winter and they look brilliant. If you can't be arsed to take the fork brace off then rub it down in situ and apply hammerite.

Lord Snotty...

Lovely looking GS. That IS nice.

IoW ... well I visit annually ! Nice GS roads. Bit crazy going into and out of Ventnor mind you. That is one heck of a steep incline.

I've a silver 05 adv with the metal panniers and remus exhaust. Id beup for a trip, never been to the Ace before. I tend to use my bike over on the mainland or France more than on the Island, Give me French roads any day!

So who did the shotblasting/pwdercoating, and what did it cost?

Redditch Shotblasting - run by Dave Joynes a fellow biker, he runs an RT and a Vincent Black Shadow. He specialises in motorcyle and vehicle restorations and often exhibits at classic bike and car shows. He also advertises in classic mags. I think he charged me something like £50 for the wishbone, brace, rocker covers, engine bars and rear footpeg hangers.

Google him and take a look at his website.
