Don't know about ...

... Mali, but someone will; as for the others, Western Sahara is currently a bit of Morocco so no extra effort needed there, Mauritania is a different kettle of fish ! We got our last Mauritanian visa (2008) at the consulate in Rabat, prior to that (2006) you could get them in London, but that's no longer an option.

If you need to go to Rabat, plan on being there for two days as you hand in your passport one day and get it back the next, hopefully !

ps - Western Sahara is one of the largest minefields in the world, DO NOT stray off the metaled roads, or if you do stay inside the stone cairns that mark the edge of the swept area DAMHIK !

Mauritania - get the visa at the Mori consulate in Rabat. Get two if you are planning to return through Mori. 24hrs last year to have it issued.

Western Sahara - part of Morocco so no visa required.

Mali -get the visa in Nouakchott at the Malian consulate. 3hrs last year.

Don't trust getting them at borders. It's sometimes yes and sometimes no, no matter what anybody says. A friend was turned back last year and had to go an awfully long way round by boat. Anyway it's so easy.

Happy travelling

I managed to get all my visas at the borders in May this year. Mauritanian visa at the border with Western Sahara, Mali visa at Nioro just across border etc. No real hardship at all.

Cheers
Ed
