Zumo 660. City navigator map appears in dropdown menu of maps within basecamp when device plugged in.

Unplug it and it's the basic none too detailed map and the detailed city navigator map disappears.

Is there a way of getting basecamp to use the detailed map without my 660 attached?

Roger.

Yes, you have to uplaod the maps to your computer, and they are automatically placed in the right folder for Basecamp.

Best to do it at the same time as you are updating your maps on your Zumo (select the "device & computer" option). In your case, you should be able to download the maps to your computer only via Garmin Express or Map Updater, but you will need to have your Zumo attached when you do it, as the Lifetime Maps licence is linked to the Zumo

Yes.

You load the maps onto your computer.

How?

Start BaseCamp

Connect your device

Launch Garmin Exress

Launch update maps (or summat like that)

When prompted (this might be in advanced, or summat like that) select.... Computer only.

Sit back for an hour or three.

The first time I installed a map into BaseCamp on my brand new super fast Mac, it was an overnight job. This was over a pretty good central London internet connection.

I was surprised, only in as much as it usually took between two to three hours into Mapsouce into a fairly clanky laptop.

I couldn't work out if it was my own internet connection that was running slow or if it was Garmin's servers being tardy. Anyway, the job was done.

I have a feeling the issue is the clockwork PC that I run BaseCamp on ;)

I think it's a problem with the server (Garmin). Bods with very fast broadband can still take over 10 hours. I cannot use MapUpdater, it never completes the download. I can download an new multi Gig operating system to my Mac quite quickly from Apple & I only have a very slow broadband connection.

I can never get my head round the fact that to do just a map update Garmin choose to remove & install the full map, instead of just applying the changes as company's like Microsoft do.

I think to achieve that the maps would be even bigger than they already are in terms of file size. Far easier and cleaner to just replace the lot IMHO. The bottleneck does seem to be at the Garmin end, possibly managing their bandwidth, as 4GB or so of data, even over my hick BB connection, isn't going to take the time that it does.

help please...

I did as instructed and downloaded the map from garmin.

Did it to device AND computer.

It reports that it's done but basecamp still has the basic map and seemingly cant find the detailed map...

What am I doing wrong boys?

Help

Roger.

But, worth pointing out that before checking that you do indeed have the latest maps now available on your device, that you should do this without the Zumo connected, otherwise all you will be doing is checking that the 2014.40 maps are on the Zumo

When the Zumo is connected to the PC BaseCamp will show all 3 maps, Global, PC 2014.4 + Zumo 2014.4.

I used to have Basecamp full mapping on my laptop (win 7), but recently it has "lost" a .dll file so only loads basic overview.

When I plug in my Zumo 550 - it uses the mapping on it, okay.

Tried installing basecamp on the laptop (download) with the zumo connected and recognised by MyGarmin------------- Fails after about 90mins :blast

Tried installing basecamp on small notebook (win 7) with the zumo connected and recognised by MyGarmin------------Fails after about 120 mins :blast

I'm getting fcuking fed up with Garmin!

Does either machine have a power saving sleep mode set? Is your Internet connection/WiFi/network reliable and solid?
