I'm sure I'm missing the plain bleedin' obvious here, but I need some help! I've just upgraded the maps in my new 660 from CN2010.1 to CN2011.10 but Mapsource is still stuck on CN2010.1 and I can't see how to upgrade that. Also, the 660 says "Cannot unlock maps" every time it starts up

Why oh why did the 2610 have to fail :(

When you say 'upgraded' do you mean that you downloaded the latest maps from the Garmin website, paying for the maps at the same time? If so, the unlock code is supplied automatically built into the download itself. You do not need to insert it. Try downloading again. If that fails, contact Garmin.

If the new maps came via a DVD from Garmin or, shall we say, 'via another source', then you may well need an unlock code, which will be sold to you by Garmin.

Hi there - I experienced a similar Mapsource problem last week when I upgraded my new 660 to CN2011.10 from the Garmin website - I tried twice (it takes ages to download) before I realised that on one of the menus as you set up to download is a button marked 'advanced' - if you click on that it takes you to another menu where you can choose to download the new maps to just the 660 or just Mapsource or both - in my case I had downloaded just to the 660 and not to Mapsource.
Hope that helps you..

Thanks for the replies. I bought the 660 recently and loaded the disc that came with it onto the PC which updated by old Mapsource software. A couple of weeks later I registered the 660 on the Garmin website for the one-time map upgrade and it was then that I started getting the "Cannot unlock maps" message. I'll try the download again as Skellum describes because I did read somewhere that having different map version in the GPS and Mapsource can give unlock problems, and also the GPS download again for good measure.

Mapsource is now running on CN2011.10 - thanks for the tip about the Advanced setting Skellum. Despite doing the download again the 660 is still saying "Cannot unlock maps" so I'm trying to contact Garmin.

Just downloaded mine for the second time as I made the same mistake.

Now try this:
open mapsource
open utilities (menu at top of page, 2nd from right)
open manage map products
highlight the map version 2011
click on unlock online
this take you to Garmin, you need the gps plugged in to pc.

After this you are on your own, but I assume if you are registered it should work

According to Mapsource the CN2011 version is unlocked and when I log onto myGarmin account it acknowledges the Zumo serial number and tells me that CN2011 was unlocked on the day I initially tried the map upgrade and it shows the unlock code for it. I've tried the unlock process again and the webpage insists that the unit is unlocked but I still get the "Cannot unlock maps" message when I turn the Zumo on. That said, it does appear to be working properly and showing full map detail. As I'm off to the Pyrenees on Tuesday with a load of off-road routes in it I'll be a bit ticked off if it fails! I've sent Garmin an email anyway.

Garmin told me to delete the gmapsupp.img file listed in the Garmin folder and I don't get the "Cannot unlock maps" message any more :thumb2
