Hi all

This may be a stupid question but please help me.

I have a 6 month old Garmin quest which i bought second hand (form here) i am really pleased with my quest and have used it on the bike and car! Brilliant!

I have loaded both V6 and V7 onto my PC but when i open up mapsource it says that V7 is locked. However i can use V7 no problem and import and export data. Why is it saying its locked? I have tried to 'unlock' it but it wont work with the codes i have.

Also i would like to update to the latest mapping is it V8 now?

would i have to pay for this the garmin was bought in november 2005.

Thank you all for your help

Julie

All sorted now! i have managed to unlock it.

I would still like to know if its worh upgrading to V8? which is the latest version isnt it?

How much would that cost me

Thank you again

Julie

Yes i would love your GS but its the wrong time for me. We are going to run the little Dcati monster this season and then sell it late september to save up for the GS and buy that in the new year.

Need to plan you see.

Sorry i havent got the money right now.

PS. How often do Garmin update there maps for the quest?

About once every 2 years, but look at the updates for your quest every month, you will find it in the Updates and downloads drop down folder on the Garmin website :thumb

Garmin road maps are updated once every year (at least they have been consistently for the last five years now).

If i install V8 on my grmin quest 1 will i then be able to use post codes on it?

No, the unit doesn't support this function, only Quest 2

Thank you

...another daft question.....

do i need to update to V8 to get V9 when that comes out? or can i just update to V9 from V7?

Your not really up-dating anything Julie. What your doing is adding another set of maps, the old ones still stay on your PC.

So you it doesn't matter which set of maps you used before you added the new set. What will change is your eligability for free unlock codes.

Upgrading from V7 to V9 or from V8 to V9 doesn't matter. The cost, $88, is the same.

In most cases it's not worth the money to upgrade every year. I myself did V4 to V6 to V8. I don't plan to upgrade to V9 but instead go for V10 when available.

My suggestion is that you skip V8. Wait for V9 before you upgrade.

Ahhhhhhh thats what i was thinking - i just wanted someone with some brains to tell me the same thing.

Thank you.

Julie,
I told you that this place would have all the answers you need, the trouble is the more you learn the more questions arise :D
See you at the Mill in May :thumb

Hi Keith

This place is great!

Which Map do you run on your Quest?

Ruth bought that little i3 street pilot and its great as well. Garmin Rule. :bow

She'll be the one selling her M600 for get the GS. I'm happy with my M620 and KTM.

See you at the mill.

I am still running V7, I cant see the point of going to V8 just yet, I may wait and get V9 next year. I only went to V7 from 6 cos it was free :D
Didnt Dennis's sons wife at the Mill have 650GS? If she has Ruth maybe able to ask nicely for test ride

I think she said something about having ago on a R1150GS BUILT IN GERMANY REFINED KEITHS GARAGE!
