A friend pointed out a site (www.tracklogs.co.uk) offering mapping software which is supposedly compatable with Garmin GPS.
Seems to be mainly aimed at offroad. i.e has no autorouting facility, but the mapping detail is said to be Ordinance Survey quality. I have ordered their demo CD, but just wondered if anyone new anything about it or better still had used it?
Would second the Fugawi option. You can buy just the 'North' or 'South' of UK options if you prefer at £89.00 odd each. All the waypoints produced will be full compatible with mapsource, so if you upload to the SPIII, you'll still get routing directions.
You can also upload to SPIII and then download back to Mapsource on your PC if you like in order to 'convert' your waypoints.
On top of that you get 1:50000 printable OS maps (in A4 segments) for the whole of UK - Bargain.
Perhaps I`ve missed something, but it looks to me as if the Fugawi mapping is only at 1 to 50000, where as the Tracklogs is at 1 to 25000. Depends what you want it for, but the larger scale is fairly essential for hillwalking.
If the Tracklogs product is a genuine 1:25000 for the WHOLE UK then that seems a very reasonable price. So far when I've investigated other products it's generally been only the 'tourist' regions (dales, lakes etc) which have been reproduced at this scale, with the rest at 1:50000.
Dennis - Keep us posted when you receive your demo CD please. Ta
