Taking mine for a new clutch pushrod on the 10th December.

Service manager asked if I wanted the "Mapping upgrade"whilst I was there ?

To be honest I've heard nothing of it and a search has not revealed anything to me.

Anyone had this done ? any improvement ?

Must admit mine is rather snatchy at anything under 1800rpm although it's not a great problem as I do very little town riding.

One or two others have had the same and have reported back that their throttle pick up seemed a lot smoother. These sorts of software updates are not uncommon, and will only be done as and when your bike is due a service ... (and of course depending on when your bike came out the factory will depend on whether you need it or not ..) :thumb2

throttle mapping is only for certain bikes ( early ones mostly) and push rod improves the ... or should I say reduces the clunk into 1st...a bit :D

ALL bikes are auto-updated once the dealer plugs your bike in, if it needs the latest update.

My ESA settings are certainly different now on "rain" mode and "rode". The rain mode now feels more like old "road" one!!! except the traction control is less violent, its still easy to activate but certainly better. The engine surging when cold has dissapeared now too. Before I had to ride in "rain" mode in traffic, or when the engine was cold to avoid the surging and what appeared to be a high tickover - now all changed and as I have said before, the bike feels like I have a completely new one.

In the lifetime of my k1200s, BMW must have updated the mapping alone over 10 times. This bike has certainly been played about with by BMW multiple times which is why I suspect many of us have different reports about how we find the bike, unless we all update at the same time its hard to compare one to another.

Other things I have noticed since June when I got it:- (I have had 3 confirmed software updates)
*Fuel level bars have altered at the frequency they go down
*The time and date has changed position on the dash slightly, and the date is now UK style thank god...
*The annoying yellow flashing warning lights flashes less now when you lift the front wheel, or try to get the back to spin :D
*Before, I could get the rear wheel to skid when I banged down fast through the gears to test the supposed slipper clutch (if it does indeed have one!), now the rear is harder to skid when you go too low on the gears for the road speed AND the revs are held better, so I think its all software controlled.
*The ESA has been changed for the better. as has the throttle response in all modes. Also, Dynamic doesn't give you whiplash now!

As per usual on this forum another ill- informed statement. The bikes are NOT AUTOMATICALLY UPDATED when the bike is connected to the diagnostic. It has to be intiated by the diagnostic operator using the correct programme.
The intial software update was to correct a bug regarding a traction control issue when the coding plug was fitted (variant 13.02.500) Later variant 13.08.500 corrected throttle and fueling issues.
As with all software upgrades you cannot go back to the previous version.
Software updates are not part of any service schedule and should technically only be done via a directive from the factory or if the bike has had accessories retrofitted. This then may upgrade the software variant automatically.
Bare in mind if you have a new LC boxer or K1600 that the operating protocols are different from previous models and your GS911 reader won't work.
Accessories that take power from the accessory sockets will also need to be totally disconnected from the sockets as part of any retrofit/software upgrade as part of the calibration routine is to recalibrate the power sockets. Any 3rd party connections to these will lead to incorrect calibration of the sockets & ultimately you will flatten the battery because of excessive current draw.
If in any doubt ask the people who actually know rather than rely on some of the ill informed statements that are often posted on here. A little knowledge is very dangerous.

Could you re-post this in a slightly more pompous way please? :P

Forgive me... this is information from two dealers. Pidcocks and rainbow. Both of which require you to sign forms when you leave your bike with them. Part of the print talks about software updates etc.
Like I said ..." if it needs updating".
And im sure people are capable of asking their dealer to plug their bikes.
I have never, ever had any issue with either dealer when asking for the bike to be updated out of any service period.
If you are in the know regarding specific updates and their revision reference please post on here and assist.
The 9+ software updates the k1200s went through were posted on their site which was brilliant for helping people oit and having points of reference.

Anyway. For those interested just make sure you get the latest updates whenever your bike goes in. Easy.

Anything for u Mike:teacher.

I was referring as to how things maybe /are misinterpreted by folk on here.

Also with reference to power sockets I'm only passing comment with reference to how much stuff folk have running stuff of the accessory socket circuit sometimes.
If you have to start having to disconnect stuff in order to carry something out that's not standard you may end up incurring additional costs at some outlets.
We're all after saving brass at the end of the day .

Put in a LESS POMPOUS way especially for Mike :thumby:

Are you saying that your ESA has changed for the better in that it is now firmer than it was before ("rain mode feels more like old road one")?

My bike has had software updates and on bumpy roads it is now total crap - may as we'll be riding an S1000RR - which is NOT why I ride GSs and I have had more than a few.

We're fucked :rob

I did hear that there are bicycles available with pedals that drive the rear wheel via a chain rather than having to scoot them along !!!!!!!

We live in strange times.

Steve

Paul, yes rain mode feels firmer now. I use that the most and noticed how different it is vs when I first had the bike. For me its better as its not too bouncy! But still has plenty of give in the suspension.
I also detest having a hard set up for the gs.
Fanum, get with the times dude ! Tech is sometimes good ! (Sometimes. ..).

Ha ha ... only known you about thirty years and Pompous you are not ;)
To the point and factual yes :thumb
.... just because he can't understand your plain text then that is his loss

I think you'll find youngun that Fanum is more up with the times than you are ;)

Hi , mine has just come back after service and a further look at the gearbox issue, they said that BMW wanted to check engine oil level ,slave cylinder, and master cylinder , but now said that they have done a software update ?(mapping) and this has made it ok ????, will test it out tomorrow , but think they are clutching at straws as to what is the problem and cure .
