I hope this isn't a stupid question but will all my old maps created in Mapsource work on the Nav 5 or will I need to create them all again:eek: This is one of the things that will effect how quickly I get my new Nav 5:confused:

As I have a lot of maps going back to 2007 I hope not:nenau

As above. You probably mean routes.

These will need to be saved as a .gpx file, which should then transfer straight into the Nav V.

Depending on which issues of map the routes were originally created on and now used, there may be some recalculation needed. How you have your device set up might mean that the route's shape (the roads it takes) might change. Check and amend if it does happen. This might happen whether you use a Nav V or not.

Mapsource saves routes in a separate file which I find better that Basecrap where the files are hidden. As has been said any route saved from Mapsource as a .gpx file can be imported into Basecrap. So far I have not found a way to do it in reverse (any suggestions?)so I make new routes in Mapsource and the import to Basecrap. This is because I deal with devices of all types and therefore need access to the file to convert for TomToms for instance.

I am now using 2014.4 but obviously some routes are quite old. If reusing any routes I always make a new file for that trip copy them in add new ones and open the old ones and do a recalculate, seems to work. Cheers

Still a two-way street John, latest version 4.3.5 (PC) back to as far as I can remember there's been an item called 'Export' in the File menu. Select an item that you want to export, could be a single route, single custom POI/way-point, a collection of routes, POIs, way-points etc. in what Garmin call a 'List' or even a whole folder. You then go to File > Export, choose the format (GPX, GDB plus others are there) and then save to your local file system. From where you can open in Mapsource or programs such as ITN Converter for translation into other formats.

Have been doing it this way since I bit the bullet and adopted Basecamp as my primary planing software, haven't looked back.

Thanks for that, I do now remember seeing that. I still prefer the way Mapsource does things. Apart from talking to the latest devices I can see no advantage in Basecamp at all for my purposes. Each to his own I suppose.

File>Export, etc.?

I don't seem to recall having a problem saving Basecamp routes as a gpx?
