I'm off to Ireland in a couple of days and have done a route in MapSource, part of which takes me up the West coast from Tralee to Lahinch.
I want to use the car ferry that goes from St Patricks to Killimer but MapSource insists on routing me round the 85 mile loop through Limerick.
The car ferry is clearly shown as a POI in MapSource, but I cannot find a way to get it to use it.
Is it just me?

Doesn't look like MapSource recognises it as a routable route, so you're probably best off seperating your route into two pieces, one ending at Killimer, and the next starting at Tarbert (or vice-versa depending on your direction). It's what i did anyway!

You can use the spare time on your ferry crossing to swap routes.

It's a machine, you own it, just feckin' ignore it

JUst go to TARBET and then cross on the little ferry. RE route from other side.

No, it's probably a little coding error in the cartography. The ferry route is there (you can see it), but the folks who compiled the CD likely forgot to give it an attribute as a 'navigable route'.

If you have time, go to the Navteq website and report it as an error, this will ensure it is fixed in the next release of the maps. It has nothing to do with you or with Garmin.

Could this be more of a systemic dysfunction (by t'heck, can I patent that?) - recently tried to route through Miedzyzdroje on the north Polish coast to Swinoujscie - however Mapsource routed us 120kms south via Szczecin, into Germany, then back over the border in to Poland, in spite of the excellent FREE ferry across the river Oder - see .jpg

Another issue, and perhaps more of a basic update one for Navteq, is that the actual border crossing is for pedestrians and bicycles only - we found out the hard way!

In fact it seems that the European basemap is in dire need of updating, especially with the recent expansion of EU members and the impact of cross border traffic

After crossing the Shannon you'll also have the wonderful experiance of riding in the sea - at least that's what your GPS will think - I don't think the coast is mapped too well there.

Try routing to Cloghane, that'sanother good one!
Flaggy Shore = foreshore plus about 500m if I remember.

Never mind, these trinkets are the work of mere mortal fallible hands, now the landscape there is a different matter!!!!
