Would appreciate a little advise.

I m trying to download a route from Mapsource to the SP111 via the serial port.

After connecting the serial cable to the SP111 I asume you should be able to power it up and then use the download button to load a route file to the data-card through the serial cable and SP111.

However mine won't switch it on with the serial cable attached.

Mapsource tells me that the GPS is not responding?

Help

What batteries.

It seems I need to either power SP111 with batteries or buy a second serial port lead with mains power supply adapter.

Any idea from where and how much.

I hear that route down loads take hours to complete is that correct?

It depends on how big the route is, but it,s not that bad. \i,ve downloaded some big routes, but they're done in minutes.
You only need 6 AA batts. But a cautionary note here. They don't last long, the best ones are the rechargable type, or if not high powered ones. There plenty of leads for sale on ebay. Someone on here makes them up, can,t remember who though.
John:)

It takes a matter of seconds to D/L a route or a bunch of waypoints via the serial port to the spIII but yes, you will need to power it up first, and as you said, this is either by battery or via a lead connection to PC...though apparently there is now a USB connection including a power suuply to the normal Garmin four point plug.....speak to GPS Warehouse for more info about it.

I just use 6x rechargeable battries in mine...set the tickbox to 'turn off GPS unit when download complete and it literally takes seconds.....and you can start the D?L before it boots fully into the map screens so the time on is minimal.......

You can do the lead yourself if you want.....too much Leffe Blonde has rendered me incapable of remembering which connections it is or the correct voltages but all the info is readily available....The garmin ead has four terminals...two are for data and the other two are for 12v poer......your pc will have 3 volt and 12 volt power cables in it...for about 27 p you can get a connector that you can wire to a serial port socket on the PC and then wire the GArmin serial plug connections to the two power wires to supply the unit on connection......

Sod that though you cheapskate,,,,just go and buy six AA batteries :D

Apologies from the bottem of a Leffe bottle :-)

Thanks Gents,

A lucky 6 pack of AA for the weekend sir.

Sorted

P.S. Bad info from BWM shop.
