i get error 1607 when installing mapsource . i have all the original discs and upgrades. anyone come accross this before ?

Maybe it is your virus scanner blocking things. Try to turn these kinds of things off.

Here is the fix that I think is applicable to your prob:
1) Uninstall Microsoft Patch: windows installer 3.1 - KB893803v2.
2) Install most current Microsoft.NET framework version from the Microsoft "windows update" site. (located in the optional install area)

Item 2 above "may" work without performing #1 but if not, then you have to uninstall that "fix"
