So having reloaded & upgraded to 6.11.1 -

When I use 'File' - 'Open' (within Mapsource) it can't see my original route files (it's looking for Garmin GPS Database files).

Via 'My documents' I can find the original route file, but have to click 'open with' and select 'Mapsource application'. That opens the route file, but when I have recalculated the route and saved it again, Windows seems to be still saving it as a 'file' rather than a 'Garmin GPS Database' file. Specifically, I've seen that it is saving the file as 'Garmin GPS Database Version 2[*.gdb] whereas my older files are 'Garmin GPS Database Version 1[*.gdb] .

Any suggestions, please?

Cheers,

Neil.

How about opening all your old files in mapsource (by switching to all files in the drop down menu of the 'open files' dialog box) and saving them to update to ver 2 *.gdb

I had to do a similar thing when they switched over from *.mps to *.gdb, not had any problems with gdb files though.

Neil:

What you have encountered is a Windows problem specific to your computer, not a MapSource problem.

The fix for it is to open a folder (any folder) with Windows, select the TOOLS menu, then choose FOLDER OPTIONS, then select the tab entitled FILE TYPES, then scroll down and select the suffix for the original MapSource files (.mps), and tell your computer to use MapSource to open files with that suffix. Once you do that, you will be able to double-click on a .mps document (an older version MapSource file), and MapSource will open it up for you automatically.

Lord only knows why your computer has decided to be cranky with you, but trust me, it's a problem with your computer, not with the Garmin application.
