For the past few days when I try to open Mapsource or mapsource files I get a pop-up box saying "v9 is one year old. Visit the site to purchase an update".
Mapsource then closes.

I've asked for the new 2008 DVD but surely I should be able to keep using v9 as long as I want anyway....?

Any ideas?

:eek

ha i am the old fashioned type must need a gps chip fitted in my head

Rather than asking a bunch of Tossers, if you need it tomorrow, why not call UK mapsource tech support before 18:00 - you might just have time to sort it.

By posting in the relevant GPS section I was rather hoping for a helpfull reply instead of the above.

Technical support are closed.

Sorry if my email came across as abrupt, but I was trying to make sure that you didn't miss out on the chance for professional help from people whose job it is to sort out this sort of thing, in the few minutes within which it may have been available. If you don't view that as helpful, it ain't my problem.

Now that tech support is closed, it's worth seeing what else people suggest.

Out of interest, have you got a copy of the user agreement? What you're describing sounds like it's tantamount to software rental and I would be extremely unhappy if I were you, but it may yet be a software problem, combined with a stupid error message.

Sorry if I sounded like I bit your head off - Garmin drive me mental..:beerjug:

I tried a system reset to the 7th of this month in case the pooter had caught summat, but to no avail.

The message says to click on a link to view the update, but doesn't contain a link

As I say I applied for the City Navigator (?) 2008 disc a few days ago and it seems to be this that it is prompting me to buy.

I think as you say the "message" is fecked.....:(

Ho-hum....

A bit of googling has shown people to be having the same sort of message, but it's just a nag message, not a problem in itself. It looks like there may be a problem with your MapSource installation, which has coincided with the nag message popping up.

Is there another computer that you can use for MapSource, temporarily? This might solve your problem in the short term, but I'd only recommend it if you can transfer the software back again, easily, afterwards.

Uninstalled v9.

I was then told that v8 was more than a year old etc......:thedummy

Gave up - went to bed.....

All works fine this a.m.....
