Question from a mate, being as much a novice with GPS stuff as he is I've no idea.....

I logged a 270 mile route yesterday but I want to delete a part of it where I went to a buddy's and then left from there and make it from my door... Figure that out yet??? I tried with Mapsource with no success...

Advice please :)

Ok... some terminology here...

A route is what you make on the PC (or on the GPS) by pointing and clicking where you want to go... you then follow this route (or not as the case may be)

A TRACK is the 'breadcrumb' trail that most GPS's record as you drive around... you typically save this track to the PC and display it with google earth, use it to put georefrences into your photos, share it with friends to use to make routes from, or with some GPS's to follow along (without turn prompts)

You can edit tracks in Mapsource...

You can select several (that you recorded on the same trip, but got fragmented because you turned the GPS off or went through a tunnel) and join them together..

You can double click on a track, and select segments of that track that you don't want, and just hit DELETE... the bits on each end will join together like it wasn't there...

You can also save the track with less points in it (click on filter in mapsource)

hope this helps.

There are tools in Mapsource to edit tracklogs, I don’t think they normally show as a default setting. Right click on the taskbar and select (tick) ‘Track edit’, the tools should now appear on the task bar. Zoom in close to use them and any mistakes, click the back button to fix it.

Post up if you have problems

Thanks for the quick replies guys, appreciate the help.....I'll pass your advice on and let you know how he gets on.

Cheers
