H1!

My company laptop needs to go off for a service and so I need to blank and reformat the hard disk before it goes - it's a hassle, but it has to be done, company rules, etc.

This will impact my MapSource installation which is the only reason I ever boot Windows anyhow, so I am disinclined to invest in a Windows backup program. The maps can be restored from CD, so no fear there.

What I would like to know is whether I should/can (and how to) save the unlock codes for my 2610 before I wipe the disk, and whether there is any other GPS-stuff which is better backed-up than erased?

Advice welcomed, please! :D

Yes use the Unlock wizard to save your codes. My pennyworth!!

Thanks! To save me from panic tomorrow when I get round to doing this, can I assume that it's some totally obvious menu option within MapSource, or is it a separate application that does this?

To Save

Open Mapsource Click Utilities/Unlock Maps/Next Back up my unlock codes to file or View installed lock codes and wright them down. Also save any Mapsource Updates to reinstall
