SWMBO and I are planning a trip to California in July. We're going to Laguna Seca for the Moto GP / AMA Superbike meeting. We're also planing on doing a bit of the ol' road trip thing. Last time we were there we did 2K miles in a week in a rented Mercury.

I'd like to obtain a copy of Garmin mapping software for the US so that I can start route planning and ultimately navigate on my SPIII. Does anyone have any ideas how I might achieve this?

Any good advice gratefully received......

:)

This probably won't help much but......the way I got the US mapping was that a friend bought a US version of the SP3 on e-bay. We registered it in my name. I then applied for an unlock code for my unit for the US mapping and an unlock code for his unit to use my European mapping.
You'll have to find someone with a US SP3. Or buy the mapping CD when you're out there. Or you could try e-bay.

Or...I've found the "Collins" road atlas quite good.

You're in luck.

Item 5742721594 on ebay works very well on a StreetPilot III and is on ebay until this weekend. A similar product (later version covering Canada and Puerto Rico) just sold for £63 (5742418221).

By the way, I happen to be the seller!
Thanks for that. Am I correct in thinking that unlike City Navigator, Metroguide, doesn't support autorouting on the SPIII?

Ouch....!

I got a reply from Garmin Europe Support today. There was a link to GPSW who are retailing fully unlocked versions of US City Navigator. £240.....!!!!! :(
