I've looked at the 'for dummies' files i they start from a point whereby there are maps available i.e city navigator. However, i have downloaded mapsource but my screen shows nothing? I've plugged in my zumo and transferred routes but still no maps? I'm obviously at a point 'pre-dummies' :nenauso whats going on?

Mapsource is Garmin's program which displays maps, waypoints and routes and allows you to manipulate those. The maps are the content which you need to save in your Garmin folder. If you bought a Zumo new, it should have come with a DVD with a copy of City Navigator NT on it. If so, bung the DVD into your drive and install the maps.

ah i see - i did buy new but maps preinstalled - it appears I can download these from ther garmin site. i assume i can then open them within mapsource?

You should have an unlock code for the maps, as said above once you have installed the CD rom that came with the zumo, open mapsource, click on utilities, manage map products, enter your unlock code and jobs a carrot.
You can also do it online at the garmin site.
Check your box my unlock code is on a yellow registration sheet of paper.

I'd ditch Mapsource and go straight to Garmin's Basecamp which seems to be the intended replacement. There's little point in you learning Mapsource only to need to re-learn Basecamp at a later date - which is what we are all having to do!:blast
