I've just received the CN NT 2009 (to update mrs Berin's Zumo). I don't want to install Mapsource 6.14 because of a) the bugs and b) doesn't work with 3rd party mapping eg Wanderlust - I don't know about Maroc Topo but I use that too.

Does that mean I can't install mrs Berins updated maps?

or, if I install the new update on a different computer would that work - on My Garmin I've got the Zumo, a Nav III and a 2610 registered., would it care if I use a different PC?

Would someone be kind enough to drive test this update and report on its usability on behalf of the forum membership to see whether it is an improvement on the last update? I'm sure we will all be extremely grateful:clap:bow:thumb:D

Nice of you to volunteer :bow

Only used it for about 10 minutes, but definitely faster.

It hasn't fixed the problem where UK Topo Maps are listed as UK Roads & Rec in the drop down menu and when they're selected, they won't display and the program hangs. :(

I’ve installed it and tried it again. It’s a whole lot faster than it was but it still staggers on my machine which has a 2 gig possessor. But it is usable.

I’d really like to see this running much faster, but more than that I’d like to see some practical new features like route tools (splitting and joining) and space bar/left click to move the map around, but seeing as this 80% fix took Garmin 6 months I’m not holding out any hopes.

BUG !

WARNING!

If you have a route that has the same start and finish, and has waypoints that are used more than once, trying to edit the route will crash Mapsource, unless you remove all the duplicated waypoints.:(

But if you delete the waypoints in the waypoint list it's allright.

Have a go with the attachment (which should read 6.15.3):

Same here. Definitely quicker to redraw than 6.14 but not as fast as 6.13, but I can live with it.

It's a bit more pretty to look at but I can't say that it's a huge step forward for my needs.

i have try it
faster, better vieuw, no problems
all the problems away:thumb2:beerjug:
to 1. time that Garmin has done it fast
the version 6.14 was realy:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I've tried to get the circular route bug to occur by using some duplicate way points but it didn't crash mine :nenau
I'll try the route posted above when I have time.

One thing I have found is that if, when viewing a map, you try and use the scroll bar on the right of the screen by grabbing the scoll button it will scroll down, but if you scroll up all the maps disappear and you get a message saying 'Overzoom' in the bottom right of the screen just below the scale indication. The only way I've found of getting the map back is to do a search for a place or using 'Find' (or select a recently found place).
It works fine using the arrows at the top and bottom of the scroll bar.

When I use Mapsource to check for an update, it only shows me 6:14:1 and not 6:15:3? :nenau

Tried your route and yip when I tried to re route it got the error.

Excercised 6.15 for some time.

Seems as some of the bugs in 6.14 are fixed OK. But my main complaints remains.

The new fuzzy graphics is much slower than the old sharp graphics. To make version 6.14 and up faster Gamin use a cache with graphics tiles to avoid recalculating the fuzzing. The problem with doing this is that they can no longer compensate for the scaling error when projecting a sphere onto a cylinder.

Mapsource 6.13 did this in a proper way but when panning up or down on the screen the scaling in east-west direction must be recalculated and the whole screen rescaled. Takes time. To save time they just skip the rescaling in 6.15 and reuse the previously calculated tiles.

Mapsource 6.13 used a projection as if you had your nose in a right angle from the ground and looked down. Mapsource 6.14 and up keeps your nose at the equator. This means a distorted scale when looking at areas near the poles.

Example: 6.13 (correct)

613.gif

6.15 (distorded)

615.gif

This distortion is a sacrifice to speed. Ok. I can understand that. But what is the purpose with making the map unsharp?

I reckon the man in QA had buttered toast for breakfast that day and got a bit of butter smeared on his glasses :augie

I tried the same with a route that I have planned for later this year ending up at the beginning.

As posted on here I too go the error message so I sent the error report to Garmin.
This is the reply I received....

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. The GDB_DATABASE.CPP error
indicates that there is a corrupt waypoint file that is not allowing the
data to be transferred to or from the unit.

Just a few things to check:

1. Update MapSource to the current version, which will also update the
waypoint symbols for some of our newer units:

http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209

2. Check through the list of waypoints and see if any of the names are
duplicated. A typical waypoint name can be no more than 14 characters.
You can name it as large of a name as you wish in MapSource, but only
the first 14 characters will transfer to the unit. So if any of those
names are duplicated, the extras will have to be renamed.

3. You can also make sure that the position format and the map datum
being used for the waypoints are correct. Check to make sure that the
formats being used are not an invalid selection. Once the correction or
deletion of the bad point has been removed or fixed, try the transfer
again.

Okay I know we could just re name the waypoint which I have done and no problem. One would think you could use the same point with out it getting lost..

I suppose it's a minor issue anyway really.

Not got any reply from them yet. Seems a bit strange that 6.14 could handle circular routes with the same waypoint more than once and 6.15 can't

And why are they saying update to the latest mapsource, can't their clever crash programme tell what version it's using :blast

Suppose that's why you have software developers, to get rid of the bugs in the initial version of the programme :blast

And I'll ignore how the Zumo doesn't like circular routes either

I can't get it to launch with the Smelly Biker UK v2.00 Topo Maps installed.

It throws an error box telling me to re-install the maps, tried that (uninstall. install) but it still won't launch.

Once the UK v2.00 is uninstalled it is fine, albeit a bit fuzzy ...

When I get a mo wil raise it over on the Smelly Biker Forum
