Hello all, I have a few questions and hopefully there are some learned gentlemen or women who can answer my queries....

Flying 26th june for a week, who should we hire our bikes from?

Where should we go, which desert, which mountains, which route can you advise for us to go where we can see a bit off the country.?

What security or precautions should we consider?

Any medical or food recommendations? Things to avoid possibly?

Any help, advise, opinions, experiences would be marvellous, I look forward to your replies, cheers all.

It'll take you a bit of time to get down to the desert and back so the mountains may be a better bet. High Atlas are a better bet and should be cooler. I've never had a security problem in Morocco just take the same precautions you would here. You'll probably get the runs. Consult a local pharmacist. They're very helpful.

Great country great people but don't get put off by the "selling@. All part of the fun. Take copies of everything - see Tim's form for the checkpoints.

Have fun.

If it were I,I'd ride to Ouarzazate (4.5hrs over a great mountain ride) and base myself from there as it's a nicer town that Marrakech and not as hectic and as aggressive for folk trying to sell you stuff at every street corner. You'll get good food in the 3 Thea's there, there's a good bakery just up the road from same. There's good hotels and small supermarket and a souk in the town also.

From there you can get yourself to Zagora (another great ride by the palmeries)and beyond to M'hamid or to Merzouga Erg Chebbi.

Bring med's for runny tummy which you will get or as an aside keep off the meat and just eat cooked vegetables/Berber omelette. Salads will be washed in local water so keep off those too. At breakfast only drink orange juice from cartons as freshly squeezed will be diluted with local water too....same goes for brushing your teeth with bottled water only.

When leaving your moto flash the caretaker about €2 the next morning for keeping any eye on the ...ie 20Dhms

My last trips were here...you'll find some good info contained therein if you can be bothered to have a wee peep.

I don't know who to rent moto's from as I take my own.

Enjoy your trip.

At risk of sounding like I'm on a kickback I have recommended them so often. We used Loc2Roues in December and found them to be professional and helpfull. I would use them again.

They are in Mkesh itself so easy access from the Airport. Bit tricky to find as the office is upstairs in a modern shopping mall so not obvious from the street.

Took the same security precautions i would take in any city. Never felt threatened. The relentless "visit my shop no obligation" gets a bit tedious but that all. By and large v friendly. Speaking schoolboy French helped as very little English spoken outside Mkesh

Getting in and out of Mkesh itself is a pain so i wouldn't try to do day trips based there. Head out and stay out. We went north east Cascade D'ouzoud and on up to the Cathderal. Fantastic. But there are loads of choices.

We took the usual medical supplies but didn't need them. Stuck to bottled water and fastiduous hand cleaning (bottle of mediscrub) and had no problems.

Will be going back!
