Hello, I know there is a wealth of information about Morocco on here if I search but please indulge a simple question(s) I'm thinking of going to Marrakesh for approx 5 days witht'missus for some winter sunshine and think have found suitable hotel and flights so question is, can one hire cars relatively easily, and where is there to to go within a days drive (and back!) that is good to see and enjoy. I'd like to see a bit of the country , was thinking maybe mountains and coast. Any suggestions gratefully received. Cheers :beer jug:John B

No problem to hire a car. I like Essaouira which is easily doable in a day. Buy argan oil and see goats in trees on the way.

From Marrakech, head out south and do a loop......up and over the Tizi N Tichka, then along and back over the Tizi N test.......in fact, that's such a nice route you could do it the opposite way around on another day:thumb2

Another really nice full day's drive out would be the Vallee De L'Oulrika, but make sure you take a GPS so you can backtrack your route if necessary (DAMHIK!)

Or......Tizi N Tichka one day, then pop along to Ouazazarte and see the Atlas film studios and Ait Benhaddu (gladiator etc etc etc) then back over the same pass, then another day for Tizi N Test and go to Taroudant, which is like Marrakech 30 years ago, far more real and uncommercialised, and the centre of the silver trade in Morocco, so a great place to mooch in the souks and back streets looking at sparkly things for the missus :)

I think if I had 5 days there to show Rosie as much as I could, I'd do three days overall in Marra itself including the gardens and palaces and tghe Kasbah and tanneries, then those two routes over the High Atlas and to two very different places (Ouazzazarte and Taroudant)

Hi All, Many thanks for suggestions, have now booked a short break in Marrakech.Mr Fanum if it's ok can I pm you for a little more detail?

was hoping to PM Mr Fanum for some more info but appears PM Box is full, will try again later. Cheers, John B

Hired a car (renault Clio) last week in Marrakech for 300 MAD per day. First day went up the Ourika Valley until stopped by snow. Second day, drove up to Imlil and then walked up to the Kasbah for mint tea (all we could afford unfortunately). Both trips highly recommended. Also agree with above about Jardin Majorelle, but no need for a hire car to get there, a taxi would be much cheaper. Herz were wanting 600 MAD a day for some tiny car when we walked in off the street, so it may be to your advantage to get the hotel, or at least a local to fix it for you. Or better still use Loc2rues and hire a bike!!

Hi All,
Just come back and wanted to say thanks for the heads up re places to see etc. We had a great time, visited the Gardens Majorelle and spent most of our time in this fascinating (and bonkers) city, did get up to the foothills of the Atlas and managed to get to Ossuira on the coast too.
Cheers, John B
