Massively loud shotgun sounds from exhaust...

On my way back from work coming off the A3 going through Ripley the noises coming from my exhaust on the overrun were just immense (sorry for the couple people I made jump in Ripley).

I wear earplugs, so the normal burbles from exhaust I can just about hear (and enjoy) but these sounded insane.

After about 4 minutes slower riding they subdued and eventually stopped. Anyone know why this happened (and how I can keep making it happen? :)

Guessing it has something to do with the exhaust being very hot from the somewhat high speeds and revs and maybe cold weather, no idea?
 
both as well as have flakey paint, rusty bolts and other quirks

It is unburnt fuel reigniting in the exhaust and normally made worse by a hole in the exhaust.

You can do it to order by switching of the engine on over run. Might blow the exhaust off the bike though. I've seen car exhausts split from end to end where there has been a momentary lose of spark, the exhaust has filled with petrol, and then the next spark has ignited it.

when mine let's one off I snigger to myself in the comfort that I've just caused a minor heart attack.... to some pedestrian....!
 
Mine pops all the time, especially after dropping from high revs, bloody love it.

When I fitted my slip-on Akropovic I forgot to put the paste around the join... word is air leaks in from there and gives the bike the farts.

The F800GS has air injection. In order to achieve the lowest possible emissions air is injected into the exhaust port in order to prevent any un-burnt fuel reaching the atmosphere and causing pollution. The "popping" heard on the over run is a result of that - sounds great does it not?

Yep :)

Still not sure if I am keeping the bike or not (moving to London so unsure about circumstances) otherwise would have bought a louder exhaust by now. Might just ride around with no exhaust for a bit, see how long until I get pulled over haha
 
Yep they do do that.... apparentely its a healthy process :D


The US version does the same :rolleyes: maybe sound a little different :D
