Master Cylinder Problem

Yesterday I renewed the front break pads on my GS 1100, as per usual I pushed in the pistons to allow the new pads to fit the calipars.
Today I have noticed that there is a leak from the Master Cylinder! What did I do wrong I have renewed break pads before on numerous jap bikes useing this method without a problem.
The leak is coming from the rubber cap that the break leaver pushes against, looks like the seal has blown.
Has anyone here had this problem, what was the solution. would a Master Cylinder overhaul kit from Motor Works fix the problem or am I going to have to change the Cylinder.
Any tip on the overhauling of fitting of a new Master Cylinder will be most welcome, the bike is an ABS model.

Double check that is coming from where you say,and not somehow from the top cap of the master cylinder reservoir.

Had you at any time previous to this added brake fluid after seeing the level get low in the reservoir....which would happen as the pads wore particularly low?

Did you perhaps push the caliper pistons in too far,and displace a large quantity of fluid ?
This would be likely after a previous fluid top up.

A seal kit should sort it if it`s from where you say.

Had a similar problem recently and bought a kit but maybe I didn't have to.
See my post in this thread before you spend as it could be worth a try.

How old is the 1100?

To be safe, get on the blower to motorworks and get the overhaul kit and a new bellows for the reservoir. Easy to change, saves a lot of hassle and worry.

you've just pushed the oil out the breather and its run down and collected in the cavity - no problems.

Clean it up and ride it.

if it wasn't leaking before - i doubt that pushing the pads back would make it leak - no real pressure applied :thumb
