Anyone simply spray painted their panniers etc ?
Does it stick ?
Longevity?

Good luck on spraying them, unless you sand them back, use etching primer and then paint them, or have them powder coated. Then wait for the scratches to take it off.

How about a matt black wrap or vinyl covering.

Saw a set on a bike on the ferry this year done in Plastidip paint, lad reckons it is fairly robust and if it gets damaged can be peeld off and redone

I've covered mine with matt black vinyl which I bought from Humvee Graphics and I'm very pleased with the result. It has been on for over a year and shows no sign of 'unsticking'. It's very simple to apply and solves the problem of the aluminium tarnishing/oxidising. Recommended

I wrapped my last set. Thankfully my missus does it and it turned out amazing . I have another set due in the new year and the idea of powder coating crossed my mind.
Would it take much to strip them down and do a powder coat of the Ali parts ?

The pair of Worldbeaters I’ve had for about 6 years are anodised and that’s survived very well even though I have a habit of using them on big winter trips then never bothering to wash the road shite off them.

I did use plastidip on mine. Takes a while to do it, multiple coats etc. Looks good but for a 2 week trip in Europe it is not good enough. Peeled off. Took the advice on here and got a set from Humvee Graphics. Brilliant. Only thing to watch with the vinyl is not to scratch the edges of the patch. It leaves a nasty crinkled tear off strip

If you are going to paint it you have to take the plastic bits off to get a proper finish. Or anodise the the panniers. The finish will be longer lasting. Or spare the labour and get a aftermarket set that is anodised.

I had the std BMW boxes painted matt black, and the finish was surprisingly robust. Easy to clean and stood up to all weathers and also a few off-road trips. As long as the prep is done well, the finish can be really good.

Just taken delivery of a set from Humvee.

Just have the two panniers, so it’s a sixty quid test - worth it I’d say. Hate it and just peel them off...

After a tour around Europe it’s still looks like the day I applied it.

If you want to apply stickers on to the vinyl I recommend you use 3m preparation.

I had my luggage on a previous bike wrapped by a mate in the trade, it looked well but it took him ages and he said "never ask me to do these again", this kind of drove me to find a solution hence my D.I.Y wrap kits.
