Just curious, but putting up the new calendar advertising their tyres, and remembering I'd seen that they do tyres for the GS, has anyone any experience of Maxxis tyres?

i've just put 4 on my saab (205-50-16) :D

I recently put a Maxxis on the back of my 1100 GS and i can feel no difference from the michellin i had on before and it was half the price.

So some of you have had these Maxxis's's for a while - any feedback yet? I've got a pair on my K12GT (54 plate) to find the rear is knackered after 4500 miles. I was hopng they'd last a service interval :( I only noticed how bad they had got when I was 100+ miles from home; I took it a bit slower to prevent too much heat-up on m/way and they seemed to get me home in a better condition to when I checked them. Wierd. Maybe I should feed them and they'll grow back?

In general though they have been a really nice tyre, comparable to the Michelins I had last time.

I have Maxxis Presa detour on my 1100gs for the last 600 miles and I'm very impressed with them for the money. Take a little getting used to as they move about when pressed hard on fast A roads but its probably due to my being used to BT016's and Pirelli Corsas on R1's. I'm not sure how long they will last but as they're cheap I will buy again

I've done 5500 miles on a pair now and after the initial feeling that they were budget compared with my usual Tourances and not to push them they have been pretty good in all conditions.

They are pretty deeply treaded to start with and I had the sensation that on shit roads into London they seemed to follow road joins but that went away after the glaze wore off...

I spoke to a couple of people in the trade regarding these and apparently the sports touring tyres are getting very good feedback from customers.
However, the full blown sports tyres have been causing problems. Both dealers have had a number of pairs returned with the same fault. When the tyres heat up the tread appears to lift away from the carcass of the tyre as if delaminating.
The tyres are fine when they cool back down again and there haven't been any total failures.
The official explaination is that air has become trapped in between the tread and carcass during production and that it isn't really a problem.
Still don't think I would bother.

Mate has the "touring" version whatever it is, and the rear is shagged after 2,500 miles.

Prob has 1k left if he's lucky.
