MAXXIS tyres

Bloody cheapskate - get some bridgestones bought!

How's things anyway?

Andy

Maxxis are highly regarded for their mountain bike tyres.

I think they may do motocross as well.

I've heard good things about them but not tried them myself.

I imagine they are a decent enough tyre though:thumb

Just seen an advert for these, seem v cheap, anyone know if thewy are any good??

My brother had a set of Maxxis on his Fazer

He scrubbed his back tyre in under 800 miles. The tyre fitter took the matter up with Maxxis who agreed to provide a replacement with a 50% reduction.

The second tyre was just as good as the first i.e another 800 miles.

(As a base line, his Dunlops lasted around 6000 miles)

Obviously the fazer is going to punish it's rubber more than a BMW but if i were to ask my bro if he would splash his hard earned on a set of Maxxis ever again i guess you can imagine the answer.

But hey, perhaps he was unlucky and copped for a bad batch!

They do make more than one tyre you know?
Some probably last longer than others.

Yeah but I'll bet that none of the big boys manufacture any tyres that last for just 800 miles.

Even Valentino got more out of a tyre than that!!

:bow

Crap.

Stick any sticky road legal trackday rubber on a bike and you can kill it in that kind of mileage if you know how to use a throttle, and if your bro had these fitted:
GetProductImageAny.aspx

that's exactly the result I would expect.

If however he had these:
GetProductImageAny.aspx

I would be surprised.

And if he had these (the ones designed for a GS!) fitted to his Fazer:
GetProductImageAny.aspx

and managed to kill them in 800 miles I would be somewhat more than surprised.

Maxxis have been making MotoX and Enduro tyres for years, and competing & succeding against the well known brands at world championship level.

Now that they have road tyres on the market I'd say watch out Dunlop, Mitchelin et al. Maxxis won't be in it just to make the numbers up they'll improve the product til eventually brand snobbery won't be enough to keep buyers away.

I know its not directly comparable but I've just had four Maxxis tyres fitted to my car and everything was okay until it rained! Scary or what!!

If I'd forgotten what the recommended braking distances were for the wet, I certainly know what they are now! And I have to allow a bit more besides!

IMHO you need more of a categoric recommendation to go with a tyre like this than people have indicated above! If you want to mess around with low RON petrol, or cheap brake pads that don't do the distance that's fine. Don't f@ck with your tyres! They're what keep you connected to Middle Earth!

Had a pair fitted to '08 GS. Initial reaction they turned in a bit quicker than Bridgstone. Soon got used to them, fine in the wet. After 3000 miles no apparent wear issues. Like most tyres available today......they were far more capable than me and probably.....I suggest.....most riders.

Well you said it....Crap was exactly the word i was looking for.

The MAXXIS were indeed crap!

The trye in question was the second/middle one of the above.

800 miles later.....my brother was surpised

Fair play. :)

Any manufacturer can (and most do) make a tyre a that will only last 800 miles. It's generally designed that way and not marketed as a touring tyre tho.:D

Curses, no hiding place left. Us pensioners need to watch the cents, especially as Gordo has knackered the exchange rate big time. Keep paying your taxes.
