Hello all

what is pistes? I assume it is off road but not dunes. is it just trails or some sort of graded road?
I was riding through Sudan on my bicycle a few years ago and all the graded road had the "washer board" effect becuase of cross winds, can i expect the same in morocco? if i remember correctly the only way to travel on them in a car or on a motorbike was to go fast and float over them. I've not had my gsa long and the only thing i can see floating if i try it is me over the bars.

All the best

Adam

Pistes are basically unmade / gravel roads. The quality varies depending on the amount of use it gets. None of the Moroccan pistes I've ridden had a 'wash board' surface but that's not to say they don't exist ;)

Some of the Moroccan pistes have been badly affected by heavy rains late last year. Have a search through some of the trip threads in the 'aftermath' section :D

Adamm,
In answer to this and your other question about maps. I ordered a "Rough guide" map off Amazon, originally for my G/F who wanted to follow where we were going (:o ) but Tim was unable to get the maps he wanted from Stanfords as they were out of stock. We compared the "Rough guide" map with the one he has and it appears to be reasonably up-to date. It is printed on what is claimed to be tear & waterproof paper, may put that to the test :D , as it is now slotted in to my tank bag.
The legend on the map shows motorways, dual carrigeways, main roads, other roads, pistes and "bad" pistes (4wd, mule track).
There are loads of pictures and video clips on the site showing the kind of roads and pistes that others have ridden on in Morocco, I'm certainly looking forward to trying a few of them!:bounce1 :bounce1 :bounce1
