Guys,

A bit of a weird one, but any useful advice will be acted upon. I have a 2,00 mile, 12 month old Adventure.

I had a nice highish speed ride in this morning on the Motorway and may have been in 3 figures (70mph of course!)

When I hit the roundabouts, the handling felt really weird, as if the front wheel was flopping in and not connected to the rest of the bike. A bit like a CBR1000 I used to have.

I cant see anything undone or loose, the tyres seem inflated and I noticed the front tyre shows contact with the road upto about 1mm from the edge of the front tyre. I'm quite sure that last time I looked at my front tyre (Tourances f+r), there was a good 15mm of front tyre that had not seen tarmac on either side and I'm not aware that I've suddenly learned to ride/corner well!!

Any ideas as to whether there could be something dangerous about to happen to the bike/me? Please help if u can.

Shame about Hizzie, by the way.

wheel bearings?

grab the front wheel with a hand top and bottom and check for any side to side movement.

Frankie,

The GS is particularly sensitive to drops in tyre pressure - get yourself a pressure gauge and check the pressures regularly - you should do this on any bike - those two little contact patches are all that keep you on the road......

And without wishing to teach you to suck eggs !!

Make sure you do them when they are stone cold.

also unlikley but have you checked the tension on the spokes?

also binding brakes can make a bike feel quite odd as you tip it in .

basically check everything on the front end

if you dont feel up to it book it into your local dealer just for peace of mind .

If you jack the rear end pre-load up the bike falls into corners quicker. Lower it and the reverse happens, turns slower and understeers if too soft.

Did you alter the rear spring pre-load at all?? or has this just appeared out of the blue??

Keep the faith :D

"tyres seem inflated", isn`t good enough!! , check your pressures as you have discribed classic low pressure!!, Let us know what you find?.

Tyre Pressures

Riding into the city every day and then going onto a long journey I found to lose drastic tyre pressures. Went up to Scotland 2 years ago waking up the next morning to one extremely deflated front tyre in Edinburgh?? Though it was a puncture although it was not down completely. Pumped both wheels to the correct tyres and waited a while checking for any possible air leaks. Did the rest of my trip with no problems and better handling.

Think the change in temperature etc has a big affect on tyre pressures. So now the first thing I do when going on a trip is deflate my tyres 1/2 way and pump them to the correct pressures.

2 minutes of your time which saves you loads of possible problems, wear and tear!

Cheers
