I made the mistake of buying this car for my daughter without asking/consulting her. She doesn't want it and my wife is also giving me grief about doing it without consulting her or my daughter - cant win for trying to be nice and the grief and moaning i have had to put up with isn't worth it so i give up and am selling it for some peace and quiet and i wont get involved again in trying to help my daughter get a car nor will i help financially. The word ungrateful comes to mind but i wouldn't dare say that out loud and someone will get a lovely little car

I think its a great value car and they are very much underrated as they are not a "sexy" looking car with an image. But it is a good low mileage car with 12 months MOT and likely to be very good cheap motoring for years to come

Pictures are a good representation of the vehicles which is in good condition but it does have minor age related marks

I bought a really tidy super-low mileage 106 for my daughter as a surprise, she took one look and said “No thanks, I don’t like green cars.”
Hugely pissed off, but sold it to a mate for his daughter, who promptly wrote it off.
Shortly after my daughter found a nice 206 in blue, and asked if I’d like to buy it for her… you can guess my answer!

Yes mine were the same (daughter and 3 sons) and had same issues with them when trying to find them good cars…..fussy over make, colour etc. I never learn but very frustrating and have helped her when she wrote 2 cars off in 3 weeks…..wasn’t her fault on either and despite other drivers being 100% at fault the insurance payments left me well out of pocket both times. I am giving up now and will spend my money on the motorbikes I want

Iincredible isn’t it? If my Dad had offered me a free car when I was 20 I’d have ripped his arm off.

I then offered it to my son on the basis of “you pass your test it’s yours…” 4 months later he decided he couldn’t be bothered to take driving lessons (which I also paid for).

When I worked for Honda they were giving HondaMAC courses away free if you bought a new 600cc Honda motorbike. We went around the Honda dealers to encourage them to take part, but Carnells at Birmingham refused saying that ‘a free course has no value.’ and that’s the way people will look at it.
It could well be applied with us lot buying decent cars for our children.

It's odd... and I can't explain it... but a mate of mine has 4 kids... the youngest is 19... and none of them drive. Even though he's bought a little Ford Fiesta for them to practice in, and offered to pay for lessons.

It doesn’t seem to be such a priority with the youngsters these days. We gifted driving lessons and test fee to our son for his 18th birthday. He didn’t bother with it until he was 25! He did an intensive course and passed first go. He hasn’t driven since, almost three years later. He does live in London though. Out of interest, earlier this week I got a quote to add him to my Skoda Rapid 1.2TSi insurance. I expected it to be a shed load as he has never insured any vehicle. It was only an additional £250.

I bought my daughter a fantastic little Citroen C2. Put a private reg on it for her. Paid for some lessons for her. Nothing. She lent it to her flat mate to drive them both about for a while. Parked it in Nottingham for a few days and it got vandalised. She didn’t tell me for a few months and it ended up getting scrapped. Lost the reg too because her friend couldn’t find the log book. Assholes.
I’ve not bothered to do anything more since.
She still can’t drive.

Another tale re helping kids with vehicles - my wife had a very decent people carrier from new and when it was 9 years old, in very good order with full main dealer history, recent clutch, cambelt, exhaust and tyres we offered it to our lad rather than let it go in part exchange. Yep, he refused on the basis that his mates would laugh, so we ran it for another two years and 30k. I would have driven anywhere in that car rather than the super-mini noddy cars favoured by his generation. Anyway, he is still not driving so it's up to him to sort now.

Grandson 17 is obsessed with getting a Volkswagen Jetta in red for his first car. Mind you he does live in rural Mayo and so the freedom it would give him is immeasurable.

So a red 1.6D in Ireland please.

I made sure my two learned straight away.

Taught them myself and supplemented with lessons.

Nearly stretched their necks a few times during the process mind.

Never have to drop them off, or take them anywhere now thank goodness. As they are a pain in the arse.

I am of course chief mechanic, but it's only routine oil changes so far once a year.

Bought them both lightly damaged / repaired cars as first motors knowing that they'd bump them (and they do.)
