The Motorcycling Club's Long Distance Trials have been out of bounds to us due to the lack of suitable 17" tubeless tyres. However, after a couple of years prodding by me and a few others they've decided to allow TKC80s! This is great news. Normally they only allow cat's paw type trail tyres or trials pattern ones, neither of which are available in tubeless 17". Go to www.themotorcyclingclub.org.uk and find out more about the trials and see some photos.
I've done several of the trials, some on an old R80G/S. They're great fun. One at New Year, the Exeter, one at Easter, the Lands End and one in October, the Edinburgh (set in the Peak District, it doesn't go anywhere near Edinburgh anymore). I haven't ridden one for a few years because of my present R80GS Basic Kalahari and its previously unsuitable TKC80s.
The entry comprises bikes and cars, verteran, vintage, classic, old heaps, modern, but no 4x4s. See MCC web site for photos. The Edinburgh certainly includes lots of trails in the Peak District that lots of us will be very familiar with, like Bamford Clough.
You start on a Friday evening, follow a roadbook and ride through the night to the next afternoon. There are 15-20 observed sections, the first few in the dark. It would be fantastic to get a bunch of GSs involved.
Anybody interested?
